Shameless Self-Promotion Monday

Apologies for being a day late. Promote yourself.

Netiquette reminders:

  • Want to recommend someone else’s writing instead? Try the latest signal-boosting thread.
  • we expect Content Notes as a courtesy to our readers for problematic content in linked posts and/or their comment threads (a habit of posting only triggering/disparaging links may annoy the Giraffe (you really don’t want to annoy the Giraffe))
  • extended discussion of self-promotion links on this thread is counter-productive for the intended signal-boosting –  the idea is for the promoted sites to get more traffic.  If it’s a side-discussion that would be off-topic/unwelcome/distressing on the other site, take it to #spillover after leaving a note on this thread redirecting others there.

  1. If you’re interested in how the battle for reproductive justice plays out on a state-by-state level, check out this great piece on how things took a nosedive in Arizona when a newly elected Obama purloined our Democratic governor for his administration. Without a veto-wielding ally at the governor’s desk, Arizona lost its moderating influence and a flurry of terrible bills were signed into law.

If you’re really interested in Arizona politics, check out our endorsed-candidate interviews, including chats with Tucson’s Victoria Steele and several from the Phoenix area: Lela Alston, Richard Andrade, Rich Bauer, Ken Clark, and Martín Quezada. If you’re one of those people who think that all Arizonans are gun-brandishing, immigrant-bashing jerks, skim these articles to see that there are plenty of people here doing good work and backed by supportive constituents.

Lastly, if you need more links, Stacey has curated some choice headlines in reproductive justice.

  2. This week, a 2-part reflection on understandings of gender & trans inclusion.

What Is Gender? System of oppression, form of communication, recurring dream, familiar melody.

How Do Trans People Fit Into Gender? If gender is part of being human, for better or for worse–so often for worse–and if we could think of it a bit like language or music, we have already entered radically new territory.

  3. Yesterday I wrote a post on how the British government needs to take domestic violence more seriously, with reference to the MP David Ruffley who was cautioned for domestic violence (and who within the last hour has said he will resign at the next election after mounting media pressure!)

  4. I recently got involved with a new friend of mine on a project about body hair and why my choice not to shave gives me an overwhelming sense of community! Although I completely jumped the gun and decided to write about it before she even got the photos developed, the links are on the page and are worth a gander anyway for feministy-collaborative-heartfeels~~

I also wrote about celebrating marvel’s diversity through their comic books and why it’s important to feel represented within the medium in which you choose to invest in.

    xx
