I really hope young African-American girls protest the hypsex-misogyny found within a majority of Hip-Hop Music. As a young biracial woman (half-Black/half-White), it disgusts me how the males within the videos treat women as if they’re nothing but sex objects, and even glorify sexual violence against women.

When women stop appearing within these videos because they’re tired of being treated like sex objects, the male Rapers will finally realize that women are not their little pawns to be exploited for profit.

Young African-American men need to also learn that women are not sex objects to be exploited for profit either. That way there will be no more misogynist male Rapers. But it’s time for African-American women to stand up and not tolerate the venomous misogyny that runs rampant in Hip-Hop.

There’s a another interesting historical meaning to the word “pimp”: police informer or crown witness. Used in Australia up until about 1950.

Nice post, Lauren. I love rap music also but I am turned off to alot of modern hip-hop cause of all the hypersex lyrics. My reasons are very personal: I’ve seen women treated horribly during my gang days. Also, there’s only so much video azz a brutha can take. :)
