Today’s Observations

Because I feel like bitching about my illness:

1. If I see Donald Trump one more time today I will throw something through my television.

2. The chili was excellent, thanks for asking. However, it is probably a good thing I am sleeping alone tonight.

3. I must shave my cat — there is no other solution to The Hair Problem. (and by that, I mean Pablo. Don’t read into this)

4. Finished three books today: A People’s History of the United States, Stolen Harvest, and Nickel and Dimed.

5. No, there will not be a book report. They have been sitting around half-read for well over a month and it was my duty as their owner to read them.

6. My bathtub is absolutely filthy, but taking a bath in it is very close to cleaning it, so that will have to do.

7. Why must I always have a horrendous break out when I get ill? Really.

8. Stephen King’s made-for-TV movies are really bad, but I will watch them anyway.

9. “Anways” is not a word. Neither is “irregardless.” Let’s strike them from the lexicon.

10. No, I do not want the “watch this blonde hottie strip for the camera now!” or “enlarge my penis in ten days!” so please stop soliciting me.

11. I really don’t like those Lysol wipes thingies, but Ethan was so excited that they were on sale at the grocery store that I bought some and he cleaned two whole bathrooms today on his own. And liked it! His next lesson in home maintenance: shoveling the driveway.

Now, back to the dishes and the floors and the hearty expulsion of phlegm.

People’s History, as you may recall, is one of my all time favorite books. I’m embarrassed to say it but govt and history all throughout high school were merely subjects to be endured. It wasn’t until I read Zinn that the subjects came to matter to me. Hope you found it a good read.

You do realize that, because of the Hasselhoff post and the dancing Spiderman, my mental health will never be the same

I read People’s History and loved it. I need to read it again. If you liked that one, I can think of a couple others that you’d probably get into as well. I also read Nickled and Dimed and enjoyed that one too.

Yeah, that is really annoying. Sad thing is, that’s the ONLY kind of email I seem to get. It’s so lonely in my inbox. It would also be nice to have some time to read some books and novels other than my class textbooks. Sigh….

And…David Hasselhoff + Dancing Spiderman = me driving a power drill into my hand in order to divert the pain. ::shudders:: The horror……

I’ve got a bunch of gmail invites I’m not using. If you don’t already have a gmail address, I could send one your way. This isn’t a solution for spam problems, but it is a way of avoiding it.

Addendum: you have excellent taste in reading materials.

Dan, my readers have excellent taste! All three of these books were sent to me as gifts by fellow bloggers. I also read “Yellow Dog in the Night Time” (I think) in a couple of hours a few weeks ago. That too was a gift.

Three more gifted books cracked open on the bedroom floor, all of which deal with pedagogical practices and school politics.

What did you think of Nickel and Dimed? I have to read it this semester for my women’s studies class.

#1 Your TV told me you don’t have the guts to do it.

#2 Somehow, the Dutch Oven loses its effect as a solo routine.

    #7 I don’t know.

#8 Watching all six hours of “Storm of the Century” is technically torture under the Geneva Conventions.

“Nickel and Dimed” in a nutshell: Being poor sucks.

As a primer for those who maintain that all the poor need to do to “solve” their economic troubles is get a job, it is an eye-opening testament to the opposite. I expect, Lauren, that you will already be familiar with most of the themes in the book, but it is an easy read even if it will be preaching to the choir.

I’m reading People’s History for my History 142 class: American History since 1865. Very interesting I’m only 3 chapters into it but I’ve found it to be very enlightening. It’s a completely different way to look at American History

I am so with you on the “anyways” thing — it’s on my top ten list of grammatical pet peeves. Feel better!

Ooh, that’s awesome! Spiderman is synched right up with David Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream.”
