I can very easily see why we would have believed the idea for the tracker panties. Women, as a whole, get put in 2nd place in that “human rights” argument (if we’re even thought of at all). We are constantly being duped and you wonder why we thought this was real?! Agh. Have you been paying attention to “these people’s” blogs at all?

Shit, the hoopla over the new Hardee’s commercial proves this point a zillion times over.

Which hoax is it that you are referring to, BillyHW? Would that be the one about the stockpiles of WMD in Iraq? Or would that be the one about the “rescue” of Pvt. Lynch? Or would that be the one about how the atrocities at Abu Ghraib were entirely unknown to officers and public officials? Or the one about how that kind of abuse isn’t common place in the US prison system? Or would that be the one about how social security is in crisis, but health care isn’t? Or, my personal favorite, would that be the one that abstinence-only education programs reduce the risk of STDs?

But I guess I’m blurring the line between the hoaxes and the outright lies, eh? Or maybe it’s because I’m just such a sucker for that left-wing, feminist propaganda that’s destroying the country, right?

Hoax though it may be, has anyone considered how useful this kind of gadget would be if used in children’s clothing, as a tracking device if the child ever went missing? Inflammatory presentation aside, I think this is an intriguing idea. It also touches on a valid issue of parental supervision and where the line should be drawn, now that technology is on the verge of allowing parents to keep tabs on their kids to an unprecedented degree. I have no doubt that within the next 10 years we’ll see things like subdermal transmitters being planted on kids to track their every move and maybe even monitor their blood for alcohol or illicit drugs. It’s going to bring a lot of childrearing debates to full boil.

Yup, it’s a hoax. Here’s my latest comment from the original post:

Did a little more digging…the product claims to be made by “Panchira Corporation.” Apparently “panchira” is a Japanese word for “panty-peeping,” and a gross kind of porn photo where men take pics up unsuspecting women’s skirts.

My bad for posting about a hoax, but I think the sentiment is just as disturbing as if it were real…

But it’s worth noting that someone on the thread thought they would be a dandy tool to keep the kids in check. And I doubt he’s alone in that…
