actually my husband studied one of the comment threads on Daily Kos for a class in Computer Mediated Discourse Analysis last semester. It turned up some interesting (but personally speaking, not surprising) stuff. He's posted about it on his blog, Sampo. it's a preliminary study, but i think that it does lend creedence to this particular issue.
