You are the Revisionist Feminist! You are, by far, the most philosophical, the most sexually-liberated, and the most politically extreme variety of feminist. You are very, very freedom-oriented. You abhor oppression in all forms. For instance, your views on sexual liberation and reproductive control adequately reflect your devotion to
personal freedom. Not only that, but you also feel gender needs to be destroyed to maximize equality and freedom, because accepting socially-constructed gender roles binds women into false categories and places upon them an unneeded identity. Gender should not be a part of one’s identity, but rather an irrelevant aspect of their physical bodies, such as their hair length or nose shape. Not only that, but Revisionist Feminists are political extremists and feel very strongly that the oppression of class society is a big part of the cause of women’s oppression. Basically, a Revisionist feels that cultural ideas of gender, political class, and repressive sexual morality all work together to oppress women, and the only way to truly escape this oppression is to challenge all of these problems directly and extremely. You are a Marxist, a Gender Abolitionist, and a Liberal Feminist all rolled into one.
The other feminist types:
The Housewife
The Marxist
The Liberal
The Liberal Extemist
The Gender Abolitionist
The Radical
The Gender-Liberal

I was gender-liberal, which is strange. Almost every other test I’ve taken has me as quite socialist, but this one scored me as only 40% socialist.
I think my problem was that I don’t believe that women’s problems would be alleviated by changing the political system to a more socialist one. It might help some, and in theory it would totally, but in practice men can still physically beat the shit out of women on a more consistent basis. I believe that working in the current system for change in this instance would be better.
Or something. I didn’t like the socialist questions very much, either.
I’m a liberal extemist, which, to my knowledge of political philosophy, is a contradiction in terms.
Poorly worded questions are par for the course. Socialism and communism are ECONOMIC systems, not necessarily political ones.
Cool. I’m a Revisionist, too!
I scored 81% higher on the class rating, which makes sense. I tend to view a lot of these issues through the lens of class equality. I’m no socialist, though.
I was gender-liberal,
I was too, Robert, but on political surveys here (UK) I score as very left-wing.
I think my problem was that I don’t believe that women’s problems would be alleviated by changing the political system to a more socialist one
I am torn not on the issue — I believe a more egalitarian society would help women — but on the issue as put in these questions. But I probably answered the same way as you.
I believe that working in the current system for change in this instance would be better
I don’t; but the survey can’t distinguish between people like you and people like me (who want to change the system anyway).
Still, it’s fun… but I’m not going to publicise my results…
(Ralph, I think socialism/Communism are political systems as well as economic ones; but I know a lot of people don’t agree.)
I got gender-liberal. With one of the most disturbing pictures I’ve ever seen.
I’m gender-liberal, but after seeing that picture I think I need a retest. Raznor said it right-disturbing.
I got the same result, which I find awkward, because I don’t have a problem with gender per se, but with rigidly imposed or constrained gender roles.
I also found myself wishing that ecofeminism was part of the spectrum.
Well, no surprise but mine came out different – lol
You are the Gender Abolitionist type of feminist.
You scored 83% Gender-Abolitionist, 40% Sexually Liberal, and 40 % Socialist
The questions were poorly constructed. I came out a “liberal feminist” and I believe I should have been identified at some other level.
I’m more of a social democrat. I do believe we need class reform, but I don’t think classism is related to sexism in the way that the questions seemed to me to imply. I don’t think class reform is the total answer to sexism, because it isn’t just upper-class men keeping lower-class women down. Women of all classes are subordinate to men of all classes.
Gender liberal here too. Pretty low on socialism, just because I don’t think that automatically changing to a socialist system will do much for women’s rights. Usually I am accused of being a socialist a couple of times a week! I agree with what others have posted here, classism and sexism are related but removing class won’t automatically remove sexism.
I do believe that gender is a social construct but that doesn’t mean it’s not important — I am very grounded in my gendered identity as a woman, but that doesn’t mean I can’t deconstruct what that means. I’m also a bit ambivalent on porn also; I’d be all for woman-friendly porn in theory but the reality seems a lot less utopian and a lot more exploitative.
Ah well. Silly quizzes.
I’m Donnie Wahlberg. Wait, did I do the right quiz? Oh shit, I got the “Which NKOTB are you?”
Even though I agree with the others who’ve stated that the questions were poorly worded, and also never really put much stock in the online quizzes I take, I still managed to wind up pretty happy with my results.
Gender-Liberal
You scored 66% Gender-Abolitionist, 100% Sexually Liberal, and 40 % Socialist
The “housewife” is a type of feminist? Read their description.
Housewife feminists feel there is no need to drastically restructure society or government in order to help women. You tend to feel that individuals can make their own lives better, and restructuring society is either pointless or too extreme to achieve these goals. You are also a very moral type of person, and tend to see the plight of women through a moral lens, not wanting to oppress others in woman’s attempt to relieve their oppression.
I’m sort of wondering what this “moral lens” is, and whose rights are at supposed to be at odds with women’s rights. Fetuses and men are the two groups that come readily to mind. And that doesn’t seem like a very feminist way of framing the issues already. But the next sentence is the kicker.
You also tend to see men and women as being very different from each other, and certainly not as equals.
Is that not contrary to everything feminism stands for? They say in the next sentence that you might think women are superior, which I guess might look feminist on the surface, but is really a symptom of the same shallow framing as above. I don’t think you can believe in women vs. men and still be a feminist.
You resemble a ’50s housewife on the surface, but beneath the exterior beats the heart of a true feminist.
Given the preceding quotes, this is looking like an exhortation to mind-body dualism.
I agree with Robert. While I think our class/economic system “needs work” (to put it mildly), the problem is that I don’t beleive that alone would improve the lot of women; I can envision a classless society that still assigns rigid gender roles, for example. So when I answered that I felt gender opression can occur in all types of societies, it came up as me not being a class warrior…. oh,well.
There was also no real way to separate the belief that there are many innate differences between men and women from the idea that gender roles and definitions are a social construct.
I scored 100% sexual liberal, which is kind of funny for a monogamist. I agree with Robert that the test muddied the socialist questions…
I’m a ‘political agnostic.’
By changing only a few answers (there were some questions I did not “get” the first time I took the test, I passed from “Housewife” to “Radical”, which may seem odd for a man who wouldn’t dare call himself a feminist, yet (but most certainly a pro-feminist), though it does reflect adequately my socialist ideas.
I am a Liberal Extremist. I believe that socialism is more aligned with feminist values (as opposed to market-driven capitalism), and I believe in sexual freedom and total liberation. People should live freely and to their fullest extent. Learn and Grow.
The questions for these quizzes are usually stupid, but the ones for this one were especially stupid.
I have to choose between “pornography degrades women” and “not all pornography does, and besides it degrades men more”?
And between “I disagree with “womyn” because men and women are equal” and “I agree with “womyn” because men and women are different”?
huh?
Apparently thinking that pornography doesn’t have to degrade women, but that it usually does degrade women (alot more than men) isn’t an option. Neither is thinking that men and women aren’t that different, but still understanding the desire to be seen as something other than a modified man.
whatever
Yeah, the questions sucked. I got labelled “Liberal Extremist”. While I might agree with the “extremist” bit (well, that’s how others tend to see me anyway), the “liberal” bit annoys me as I’m waaaaay to the left of most people who describe themselves that way. Why was there no “Radical Extremist” label?
What bugged me was the question about “womyn”, for the same reasons Jenny K said: wtf were they trying to get at there? And also the reduction of the whole porn issue to the point where whatever you answered basically didn’t mean much.
Normally I take these quizzes as a bit of light fun, but for some reason, this one is ticking me off. Must be that lack of humour that strikes me like a Pavlov dog whenever I hear the word “feminist”.
