Why the internet shrines to cats? The NYT has a possible answer:
Maybe the difference is that dogs are public, everyone’s business. They go on subways and they go in parks. They are always caught in flagrante defecato. Cats stay home. They are private, nobody’s business. To watch them in their homes is a privilege. They are perfect for the Web, the medium of voyeurs.
…Remind you of anything? Those cats are like so many bloggers sitting at home staring into their computer screens and watching other bloggers blog other bloggers. Cats, who live indoors and love to prowl, are the soul of the blogosphere. Dogs would never blog.
For further cat-related ridiculousness, see the kitty cat dance, remarkably similar to something I do to my cats to entertain Ethan. This movie as well is always entertaining to the boy when he’s in a sour mood.

yeeshlouise! can i have her job? the NYT pays me to chat about stuff i’ve found on the web… sweet gig.
& could we be more city-centric? cats aren’t public? “who live indoors”? where i live, a 1/2 dozen cats come by to visit & pay respects at least twice a day. & just down the way- there’s a barn full of them.
still, the kittycatdance is one of the high points of Western Art. so much so that My Sweet Love has spawned a variant ditty of it for our own cat which is way too dreadfully cute for me to repeat.
there’s plenty of dog crap (pun so very much intended) on the web. it just ain’t hip crap.
The truth about cat-blogging and dogs
The NY Times has tackled the incredibly important subject of cat-blogging. A few bloggers have picked it up. As the owner of two superstars of cat-blogging, Max and Katy, I thought I would address the critical issue of our time….
I feel that Stuff on My Cat should be mentioned.
deep thoughts, i like the cat as voyeur!
I have an easier time getting shots of the dog than of the cat. This may be because the cat, who turns 18 next month and has been in renal failure for almost 4 years, just doesn’t want to be bothered (he sees I’ve pulled the camera out and looks away or takes off).
Oy! I clicked the SmellyPoop link!! ACK!
