    Friday Random Ten

The game: crank up your digital music player, set it to random, and hit play. List the first ten songs that come up. I’m looking forward to seeing your lists in comments and trackbacks.
    Here’s mine:
    1. “Welcome to Earth” …

Every time I load a whole bunch of new stuff by one artist onto the iPod, it then throws a lot of the new artist into the supposedly “random” mix. I’ve been hearing a lot of Barenaked Ladies and a lot of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.

Damn, can’t believe I forgot the ellipsis.

I agree that the punctuation is essential. Actually, if there were a way to indicate that the name should be spoken in a spacesuit through a hollowed-out 1950s TV set, I’d be for that too. Whatever catches the ambiance of the live act.

My truly random ten [I finally loaded up all 9,000+ songs and hit shuffle]

First one out of the block:

2812 – Frank Sinatra, Come Fly With Me 10/10
Wow, that’s pretty cool for the first song. There’s no one to compare with the Chairman of the Board.

    1930 – Bob James, Carribean Night 6/10
I love him, when he’s not sounding like “Taxi”

    4284 – The Pretenders, Complex Person 5/10
Too reggae for the mood. But the words sure are appropriate for our War On Terror times.

5183 – The Yardbirds, Shapes of Things 6/10
Well, I’ve got the weed, but I’ve long since given up the acid. Funny, though, last two songs make references to “soldiers” and war.

4337 – Queen, We Will Rock You 10/10
Two top tens so far. Anything by Queen (bowing to Freddy) makes my top ten. And as a sports nut, I have to LOVE this song.

3736 – Madonna, Vogue (shit, not sure how to rate this) I gotta give the girl props for this song 9/10
Man, I remember being at the Limelight in NYC, circa early 90′s, this song plays, costume night, and I turn around and this guy dressed in pink angel outfit is dancing with me. Voguing. With his dingaling and dangling. Ah, the memories. Come on, vogue, let your body go …All you need, is your own imagination!

7435 – Poison, Unskinny Bop OK, my own 8/10, cuz I just love glam rock!
I would love to relive my life circa 1988-1989 (grins)

303 – The Cookies, Don’t Say Nothing Bad (About My Baby) thinking … 7/10
“Everybody says he’s lazy, but not when he’s kissing me.”

    7157 – Clark Sisters, Amazing Grace 4/10
    I like Whitney’s version better.

    8355 – Terra Samba, Rebole 5/10
I love carnival in Rio, and this is one of the regular samba groups

    Bonus track:

3699 – Keely Smith, Someone To Watch Over Me (sigh, 10/10)

    6) The Queers – Cut It Dude

Oooh Portishead. I love Portishead. I first heard them on NPR. I own “Dummy”.

As usual, my Friday Random Ten is so obscure people would say “huh”? That’s what I get for liking electronic music.
