Each instrument is different. You must approach each instrument with respect. Listen for the differences and play to them.

    Ah, the poetry of life.

“I can play Stairway To Heaven on the piano.”

Can you do Battle of Evermore?

I should have shown more dedication to my music lessons…

This is one of the most gorgeous posts I’ve read. I think it captures everything I love about music. This is the reason that I continue to play my horn, even though it wipes out about 6 hours of my week on non-game weekends. Hopefully I can instill as much of a love of music in my child(ren) as you seem to have in Ethan.

Ah, memories …. The day after I moved into my own house, I headed off the the music store to “rent to own” an Ivers & Ponds piano, a studio version of the one in my parents’ dining room. I’ve got boxes full of old Sheet Music magazines from my mom, just like yours. 2 of my 3 kids learned to play, but all 3 do music of some kind. Now that the oldest have gone off to college this month, I miss the music in the house.

I will say that the Roland and other digital pianos (I have an older Roland myself) can be easier. When I was in high school I hated to practice, but, with the digital, I could plug in headphones and come home at midnight and practice and not bug anyone. Plus no tuning….! It’s a beautiful thing.
Can I ask what series of books Ethan’s teacher is using? (I used to teach piano)

We have that same Roland piano, got it when my daughter was about the same age as Ethan. She’s taken lessons off and on, but prefers to just play on her own.
