The Anti-Feminist Drinking Game

By way of The Countess, here’s something I’ll be playing when I’m done with finals on Dec. 22:

The Anti-Feminist Drinking Game:

One shot each time an anti-feminist troll writes…

“equality”

“fairness”

“victim”

“misandry”

“FemNag”

“Feminazi”

“matriarchy”

“equality”

Two shots for the following:

“equity feminist”

“gender feminist”

Feel free to add new words to the drinking game in my comments. If you start to get too tipsy, feel free to feed the booze to a potted plant

Add your suggestions over at The Countess.

    Cheater.

Yeah, cheater! Typical feminist, only follow the rules when they SUIT you! (And pretty sneaky, there, Lauren, pretending that you and Jill aren’t a monolith.)

Now, acknowledge that you’ll follow the rules and always drink when you hear the words, so that I can accuse you of being drunken and hiding behind the rules to justify your raging alcoholism.

Hate to ruin the fun dialog but could someone post a definition of Equity feminist and gender feminist. I thought that all feminists were man hating bitches. Are we subdividing now? By the way, I just got home from a wake and I am drunk on a Sunday night. Work will suck tomorrow;-0.

    Robert 12.11.2005 at 8:24 pm |

The funny definition is that an equity feminist is a feminist whose views the labeler finds unobjectionable, and a gender feminist is that crazed Feminazi bitch who wants to cut off our penises. (Drink!)

The nonfunny definition is that equity feminists are the first-wave feminists who worked in the 50s, 60s, 70s to get women things like the right to own property in their own names, work in the same career fields as men, and basically get taken seriously as players in the economic and educational worlds. Gender feminists would then be the ones who want boys raised like girls and vice versa and all that sort of thing.

How about a Feministe drinking game?

1 sip every time Robert makes a comment (any more of a sip and we will have alcohol poisoning everywhere)

1 drink when a snarky comment is made

1 drink when a post gets a trackback

    any other suggestions?

You should also get to drink for concepts. For example… “There is no such thing as male privilege!” and “women are just feminists because they’re not hot enough” and so on.

I thought wave one was sufferage, no? No one else saw that hot HBO movie with the hunger strikes and Swank? As a man it’s hard for me to admit that I’m not all-knowing, though I pretty much always keep up the pretense, so forgiveme if I don’t take correction well.

  13. 14
    KnifeGhost 12.11.2005 at 8:40 pm |

    First wave, suffrage.

    Second wave, ERA.

    Third wave, riot grrl.

To be really reductive and simplistic about it.

    mythago 12.11.2005 at 8:42 pm |

Gender feminists would then be the ones who want boys raised like girls and vice versa

Meaning, who want girls to grow up and think that they should work and be taken seriously in the male career world…oh, wait…

  15. 16
    Sally 12.11.2005 at 8:46 pm |

Actually, the ERA was a product of the first wave, or at least the 1.5 wave. It was originally proposed in the early ’20s.

I assume that Robert meant the *18* 50s, 60s,and 70s, although that’s a weird way to refer to them.

Okay I officially don’t like gender feminists. Cutting off my penis would hurt;-).

1 sip every time Robert makes a comment (any more of a sip and we will have alcohol poisoning everywhere)

I tried taking a sip for a Robert post but I just downed a rum & coke thinking about gender feminists and my penis. I’m pouring another right now to buffer further against bad thoughts!

I know this is off topic, and probably something you have posted about. But I really think this is an important issue.. and I hope you are aware of it:

    Colorado Jyms 12.11.2005 at 9:14 pm |

I guess I should clarify why my comment above is a feminism topic: If men are more likely to be abusive, dead beat fathers, etc… this issue that seems like it is a ‘masculism’ issue crosses over to feminism also.

    Well, there went that bottle.

This is the important part of the piece:

Of course, not every male has to go to college to succeed, to be a good husband, to be a good and productive man. But a dismal future lies ahead for large numbers of boys in this generation who will not go to college. Statistics show that a young man who doesn’t finish school or go to college in 2005 will likely earn less than half what a college graduate earns. He’ll be three times more likely to be unemployed and more likely to be homeless. He’ll be more likely to get divorced, more likely to engage in violence against women and more likely to engage in crime. He’ll be more likely to develop substance abuse problems and to be a greater burden on the economy, statistically, since men who don’t attend college pay less in Social Security and other taxes, depend more on government welfare, are more likely to father children out of wedlock and are more likely not to pay child support.

C’mon, man, the liquor stores are all closed.

  24. 26
    Robert 12.11.2005 at 10:02 pm |

CJ, it seems intuitively obvious that the causality runs the other way on that. Failing to get your degree doesn’t suddenly turn you into a homeless jobless pothead wife-beating loser; being the kind of person with a tendency to become a HJPWBL also means that you’re likely not to finish school.

You can’t even buy alcohol on sunday in Indiana… which is why I wish I lived closer to a border.

Hey, I propose a new category: The burkha feminist — one who believes covering ones face and hair (often on penalty of being slashed and/or gang-raped by males) is an empowering cultural statement for a women to make. One who defends a woman’s right to be truly enslaved by an honest-to-goodness medieval-style patriarchy. AKA an antifeminist.

What can I say? I never went to college. I just quizzed those that did and read the books they read (in a couple of weeks per year I covered everything they did). I started my own business instead of wasting time in school and now make more than any of my friends who got their degree. Two of them even work for me since they go their degrees in fields that were useful.

My dad is a janitor and my mother works in a data-entry position in a bank. Combined they aren’t doing bad now that they don’t have kids to support (they inherited a house – so no rent) but they aren’t rich. I make much more than they do combined though.

People with the right attitude will succeed, those without won’t.

I love it that among those words that now mark you as an “anti-feminist troll” is “equality.”

Good Christ, the irony is so fucking thick I’m going to need to tunnel through it with a spiked nipple cup.

I love it that among those words that now mark you as an “anti-feminist troll” is “equality.”

Only when the word “equality” is given connotations by a noted anti-feminist who was wholly endorsed by the dude who invented the word “feminazi.” Thus we have “feminists = Nazis” and “equality is for anti-feminism” in one big bag. Don’t expect us to take that premise seriously even if your intentions are pure.

I’d write more about this, but I’m studying for finals and unless the question is about torts, I can’t give it more than 5 minutes.

The Jack of Hearts did it.

C’mon, man, the liquor stores are all closed.

They aren’t in Massachusetts anymore, thank God. And why don’t you have a stash prepared for emergencies?

Plus, I’d say pity me because I live in a dry town (no liquor allowed to be sold here), but the town recently voted to put a stop to that. We now have restaurants that can serve booze. Yay!

You don’t have to give the booze to a potted plant if you don’t want to. Just drink it and pretend to be a potted plant when you’ve had too much.

I haven’t seen anyone mention this yet: “Gender feminist” and “equity feminist” are terms created by anti-feminist Christina Hoff Sommers. She coined them in “Who Stole Feminism”. Gender feminists are, as Jill said, feminists with liberal views that anti-feminists (like Hoff Sommers) don’t like.

  34. 36
    Defense Guy 12.12.2005 at 10:19 am |

Why is Christina Hoff Sommers considered an anti-feminist? Is this a term she gives herself, or is it a designation applied to her by those who disagree with what she says?

I honestly didn’t know that feminism was like Baskin Robbins now, is there a place where a neophyte can go to define terms?

In the spirit of “fairness” and “equality” (and “equality”) I propose drinking when “trolls” mention love, nature, truth, female, vagina, uterus, fetus, rights, dignity, rape, and mother.

Oh, I could have found somewhere to sell me beer if I’d wanted to travel, but the bodega closest to me was closed, and the other ones nearby sell horsepiss.
