Jill, I spent the morning reading RA's site and I have to agree, if you did indeed say this, that he is using atheism as a front to argue a anti-choice position. He is either religious or an idiot and I dont think he is an idiot.

Regarding the Price of Motherhood, could the discussion begin with the flippancy with which Landsberg described the groups of women followed in the "experiments". Or was that just my impression? Then could we move on to what an economist would make of the costs involved in raising a child who has disabilities? The older the mother the more likely this is to occur. Then could we finish with the question - how does any of this information help or harm women?

Are these more like midterms for full-year courses, like I had? I remember my 1L midterms well. I had bronchitis and was coughing clear phlegm into tissue for pretty much all the tests, much to the delight of the other test-takers. Since we were all in the same classes, I was elected King of the Law School after the ordeal was over.

The price of motherhood one is interesting. What I think happens is that women get caught in a catch-22. We want to put off having kids so that we can save up more money, and the average Northeastern American doesn't really save up enough for kids until we're at least 26-ish. But then come the "scientific" studies showing that our fertility doesn't last long at all--one study said it takes a dive at 27 I think, which I'm going to be in exactly 3 weeks. Even though I plan to have kids within a couple years, I feel the pressure on both sides that I'm "getting old" (ok not really but there are jerks out there who say that), but also "can we really afford this?"

So what is the solution? A more family-friendly workplace perhaps, but also it would help if our financial clocks were more in step with our biological clocks. Either make it easier to afford kids at 22, or to have them at 35, and I don't know which if either of those would be possible to arrange.

Regarding the war on Christmas: I think it's getting silly on both ends. I'm from Wisconsin, where that one school edited the lyrics of Silent Night, which is taking things too far. But at the same time, getting one's grannybloomers in a wad just because someone said "Happy Holidays" is ridiculous as well.

Best of luck. However, you won't need luck...as someone else pointed out, you're sharp and know the material. You'll do fine!

Tell me...is John Houseman still teaching law? :)
