Ahem. Ahem. Lauren, Pandagon is down. Is it me or them?
Carnival of Liberals? Sounds familiar…
Oh, I remember this! Wasn’t that the motto for John Kerry’s Presidential campaign? Yeah, I remember Ben Affleck smiling, waving, and handing out buttons that read, “Don’t blame me–it’s either this or Bush.” I also remember Kerry’s wife clapping and waving with that “Got money, need power” gleam in her eye. She couldn’t wait for the day she could loom over the crowd and shout, “Let them eat ketchup!”
Yeah, Carnival of Liberals, I recall it very clearly now. Almost as entertaining as Clinton’s tenure in the Oval Office.
Pandagon was down for me, too…
I may be a conservative but I happened to like Clinton. He was often weak on foreign policy but he recognized terrorism as a REAL threat before most people. He also knew enough not to screw around with the markets, he was more libertarian in that regard than the current admin. I could almost see him implementing most of Bush’s policies post 9-11 if he had still been in power. Of course if he had the republican congress would be griling him;-)
I’ll never grill a Clinton for the job he did on the economy. My Republican friends won’t give him credit. They say the calm ride we enjoyed during the Clinton years were actually time-delayed Reaganomics. They say George W. Bush “inherited” Clinton’s recession because of poor economic decisions he made while he was in office. Of course, no one is stupid enough to believe that. Republicans always have and always will wreck our economy and put us in the red. That’s what rich people do when they spend other people’s money. It’s fun for them. It’s a recreational pasttime really–like miniature golf: “Hmmmm, we haven’t wasted enough lives and dollars this fiscal year. Where might we start a war next?” Then, blind-folded, they spin the globe and stick out their index finger…
Democrats just need to swallow the fact that balancing the budget doesn’t necessarily equal higher taxes if you’re smart enough to shrink federal expenditures. I mean if you have an excess (i.e. you’re in the black), then that means we’re taking in more than we’re spending. So reduce the cost of the federal government and put those dollars back in the pockets of the Americans who worked so hard for them. Spoken like a true Libertarian, eh?
SueZ: Powweb was experiencing some difficulties today, as was Feministe and other Powweb blogs. No big thang.
