God I am so uncool. Apparenly zuzu is uncool too. Piny, can you help us out here?
Also, I need an iPod. Doing this thing on iTunes every week just exemplifies how uncool I truly am.
Ms. Lauren, you must figure out a way to send me your entire music collection so that Feministe doesn’t become the uncool music blog. I’d hate to see that insufferable music snob beat us out.

In fact, I do have a way. Email me and I’ll fill you in.
Cool is what you like.
And, IMO, and list with Tom Waits, Portishead and Ray Charles is way cool.
Jill, Tom Waits again? You rock, my sister — and including the sublime Janet gets extra points from the high priests of uncoolness here in Pasadena.

Lou Reed’s meditation on parenthood has one of my favorite lyrics of all time: “I’d like to have someone I could pass something on to/ Something better than rage, pain, anger and hurt.”
I feel far less uncool now.
Two words: Mariah Carey.
Yo, I don’t have an iPod — I use Winamp, the free music player, on my desktop.
I know… I think the problem is that I have a whole lot of Tom Waits, and so the probability of it getting selected multiple times is very high. Ditto with Ani.
Clearly, zuzu, you haven’t heard “Shake it Off.” Because if you had, you would realize that The Emancipation of Mimi is amazing. And no, I am not ashamed of my love for Mariah. I even saw Glitter.
Never done this before, but I felt obliged to pass it on.
Windows Media Player here at work. I started shuffling with a Real Jukebox in ’98. I’m drawing from part of the CD collection, public library CD’s & stuff slowly gathered from the Internet over the years. 95% of my collection is vinyl & it’s suddenly dawned on me that these random tens could be actual looks into personal collections exclusively consisting of files (& maybe the odd CD one got as a present). That’s much more intimate than I realized; no wonder duff tracks pop up. Should I disqualify myself?
M. Dupont – The Dinning Rooms
SMETANA: Appearance of the Comedians – Czech State Philharmonic Orchestra
Life – kissing wendy
Ode To Schadenfreude – IOVAE
I Get Lifted [Grooveblaster remix] – George McCrae

MOZART: Fantasia for piano in c, K. 475 – Alfred Brendel
Jill, you get 100% cred for the Neil Young alone. Star of Bethlehem is fucking gorgeous.
No one who has a Sigur Rós and Mogwai collaboration can be considered uncool.

Can I just say how much I love, love, love Dust Devil—a song about hot rods and handheld vacuums. Gibby’s delivery of the line, “He’s got the power of an upright in his god damn hand!” totally sells it. Like it’s the most amazing invention, ever. Like, “Are you listening people? The power of an upright. In. Your. God. Damn. Hand.”
Friday Random Ten – The “Fortified With 10 Essential Downloads” Edition
Time for Friday Random Ten, where you hit shuffle on your favorite digital music player (for me my iTunes at work) and report on the first ten songs that it spits out. Thanks to everyone who made suggestions for my
Julie, your list became infinitely cool when Allison Krause showed up on it. I don’t think even Garth Brooks ruins it (though he comes damn close).
Sooner or later, I’ll return to doing these things myownself.
