Radio Shack’s CEO recently resigned, and it turns out his resume was faked.
Kinda like that of George Deutsch III, the political appointee to a NASA public-affairs position who was responsible for suppressing global-warming findings.
Neither the Radio Shack CEO or Deutsch actually completed the degrees they listed on their resumes, which might be a particular issue with Deutsch, considering the security clearance he must have had to have gone through before taking the job.
Now, I can see exaggerating your duties or the responsibility of the job that you previously had, but to frickin’ LIE about your DEGREE? That’ s the easiest thing in the world to check.
The problem, I guess, is that some people just don’t bother to check before giving out sensitive jobs because, well, it’s your friend’s kid.

The Radio Shack thing has been followed in all its incredible glory here in FDub (Ft. Worth, where Radio Shack is headquartered) for the past week. What makes it funnier (to my cynical self) is that Edmondson failed to graduate from a college that isn’t even accredited. He went to Pacific Coast Baptist College (now Heartland Baptist Bible College), which is a BJU-style fundy college which isn’t academically recognized.
Funny as all that is, it’s going to hurt the local economy, which isn’t something we really need right now. Yeargh.
When I was teaching English in Taiwan, the only required qualification was an undergraduate degree (with any major). There were a large number of westerners there who had fake degrees and who taught for several years. I heard that it was possible to get these fakes off the internet and when I was in Bangkok I saw people selling them on the street.
So, I guess my answer to ‘Who does this?’ is: probably more people that you’d realise.
Except the economy of the Radio Shack CEO, who gets severance. Definitely not a hoot.
