I think they should be called on it, but not <em>punished</em>. My statement, however poorly worded, was meant to say that if you are an out right racist (i.e. a white supremacist) or an outright sexist (i.e. you hit your girlfriend), then you should be punished and marginalized for your fucked up behavior. You seem to want to use the notion of open and honest as an excuse to say things that may be offensive to others without being called on it. That's where I call bullshit. Correct me if I'm wrong.
