I guess I should be glad my college days occurred before the rise of the Internets and for-the-boys Lesbian Chic.

I’m sure they drink harder in Buffalo.
I’m teaching a dance class to teen age girls whose friends or relatives sometimes get shot. It’s given me an unexpected pespective on the non fatal fuck-ups of the young and dumb.
Well, I definitely drank harder in Buffalo. Lowers the freezing point of the bloodstream.
But we already got enough wankers from the Greater NYC area at SUNY Bufalo and Buffalo State, so – though I have not lived anywhere near there for 25 years – I respectfully demur on behalf of my former hometown.
I suspect most undergrads at any college don’t do things like that. And every college has at least a few who do. Your average college party, while often enjoyable, doesn’t really make good ink.
Never been there at night, when the kiddies come around. When I’m there it’s strictly the professionals, pounding Guinness at 7:30 on Saturday morning.
Well, my school was known as a party school back in the day (prior to the crackdown on alcohol — I understand that some of the dorms are dry now). And I have to say, these people are pikers.
Now, throw in a toilet ripped out of the bathroom and thrown out the window, a lot of vomit and some broken windows, frisbees and maybe a bonfire or two, and you got yourselves a UConn party.
What? There was little else to do in Storrs in the late 80s if you were underage. It was even worse in the 60s, when the dorm called the Jungle housed a lot of Vietnam vets, who did stuff like ride their motorcycles through the halls.

Speaking of NYC, I’m headed up there in two weeks for Model UN. We’re staying on Times Square, and we have most of a Saturday night free (we fly back home the following day, but it’s an afternoon flight). Any suggestions on what we could do?
Publicity like this is exactly why I have such a hard time getting my three kids (well two, one is half-way getting it) to enroll in college although they’ve all graduated high school at least a year ago, the oldest, three years ago.
I was a pushy, demanding parent and demanded they account for their sins in high school and worked hard to educate them about this behavior. They got it. Ten times over. Now they tell me they aren’t interested in attending a big university fulltime because they have no interest in being around ‘immature’ students who only want to party it up.
Such publicity serves nothing in my mind but to further denigrate the value of education. Although I realize that middle class and uppers know the value of education and that it isn’t all like this, I can’t get my kids to believe it.

Buffalo is, like, way more hardcore than that.
Though, admittedly, I escaped to Vermont for college and stick to the queer scene on breaks … I’m going by my high school classmates’ facebooks.
Ok, fine, they don’t have to go to Buffalo. Long Island, maybe? Think Hofstra will take them?
That certainly wasn’t my life as an undergraduate.
Damn. :)
Yeah, mine neither. I swear, most NYU undergrads don’t do stupid shit like that…

Ahh, Nevadas.

And yes, I’m glad there’s no existing photo evidence of my college parties.
Thing is, I became a much better drinker when I went to graduate school.
Coors fucking Light? These kids need real beer.
I know. It’s all just so… sad.

Send ‘em to Chicago, Kate. They’re rated one of the most boring, least partying schools ever.
I think a little west coast culture could help these kids.
Some of the best college parties I’ve ever attended were at SDSU.
