In Case You Needed Another Reason to Dislike John McCain

And they said John Kerry was a flip-flopper:

He has endorsed Bush tax cuts he once criticized as fiscally ruinous, and he agreed to appear at a commencement at Liberty University, headed by Mr. Falwell, whom Mr. McCain once called an agent of “intolerance.”

Financial ruin and intolerance… now there are some great things to support.

After denouncing Mr. Bush’s tax cuts when they were first proposed, he voted in favor of making them permanent. He spoke approvingly of a South Dakota law that would prohibit virtually all abortions, part of an effort by abortion opponents to prod the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, though he said it should include an exemption for rape, incest and protecting the life of the mother.

Well isn’t that generous of him.

He said schools should be allowed to offer “intelligent design” courses as an alternative to evolution, a huge issue for many conservatives. And he accepted the invitation to speak at the Liberty University commencement by Mr. Falwell, saying he saw no difference between that and accepting an invitation from Bob Kerrey, the former senator from Nebraska, to speak at the New School, where Mr. Kerrey is president.

There’s no difference between speaking at the New School and Liberty University? Ookay.

And if that’s not enough, I’ll just say that anyone who earns Jerry Falwell’s stamp of approval is probably not an ideal candidate:

“I’ve felt since I first knew about him that he stood on the right side of the ball on social issues,” Mr. Falwell said. “I don’t think he has changed his views. He is certainly pro-life. He clearly is an advocate of the husband-female family, he does not support same-sex marriage. I know of no reason I could not support him.”

Scary, isn’t it? Note the term “husband-female family.” And hope that McCain loses in the primaries.

No, no. Falwell is clearly endorsing same-sex marriage, in perhaps a bigoted way, but it’s obvious he meant a female-husband marriage. It’s too bad they can’t get over that “which one is the man in the relationship” deal, but at least he’s had a change of heart.

“husband-female”? well, he didn’t say what gender the husband had to be…LOL

mccain showed his true colors back during the 2000 election cycle.

he said that the south carolina flag dispute — whether or not to remove the conferate battle flag from atop the statehouse — was an issue for the people of south carolina to settle.

and as soon as his a** lost the primary, we found out that he thought the flag should come down. he just wasn’t ballsy enough to take a stand. (s.c. is scarily conservative and republican to the point where i’m convinced the entire state would return black folks to slavery if they could.)

It’s strange, just because somebody’s not Bush doesn’t necessarily make him not an ultra-conservative. That’s why organizations like the American Conservative Union have ratings (lifetime rating for McCain: 83/100).

As for the reason any of his might have liked him to begin with (campaign finance with Feingold), he’s now eviscerating it with the help of the loonies in the House to support his own Presidential run. Flawless hypocrisy! Fatality!

zuzu, you’ve got the wrong McCain. TBogg was writing about Robert Stacy McCain, assistant national editor for the Moonie Times.

    John isn’t that blatant.
