I missed Pam’s post about Cynthia McKinney’s hair and helpful constructive criticism thereof until it popped up in the recent comments bar; Kevin Andre Elliott at Slant Truth posted today about a related phenomenon.
(I’m sure most of you have read Pam’s post by now; those of you who haven’t should know that the quotes she culls are really really vituperatively racist–for talk radio, even. Then she heads over to the Free Republic. You’ve been warned.)
My favorite part is the way Boortz pretends that he’d treat this woman with a modicum of respect if only she’d take a little more trouble with her hair.
Kevin’s post is about treatment that is only less insulting on the most superficial level. Certain people think it’s okay to treat his head like a pregnant woman’s torso:
You see, I wear my hair in an afro. It’s a constanst source of talk amongst White people. When I’m out at a bar, it’s inevitable that someone will ask to touch my hair. Or someone will go out of their way to point out how much they love me hair. And it’s always White people.
(Since this is not a post but rather me abusing the blockquote function, go over there.)
