NYT poll puts Bush’s overall approval rating at 31%.
Mr. Bush’s overall job approval rating hit another new low, 31 percent, tying the low point of his father in July 1992, four months before the elder Mr. Bush lost his bid for a second term to Bill Clinton. That is the third lowest approval rating of any president in 50 years; only Richard M. Nixon and Jimmy Carter were viewed less favorably.
Clearly, he’s trying to outdo his father on this one. Now, if he can only break 30%, he’ll have beaten Dad at the unpopularity game.
And let’s think about the events surrounding the low numbers of the listed presidents: Bush I had a recession (during which I lost my job and went on unemployment; the next time that happened, another George Bush was in the White House). Nixon, of course, had Watergate, and Carter had the Iranian hostage crisis, stagflation and the oil embargo. All three of them, however, had other accomplishments during office. Bush I had a successful Gulf War, Carter had the Camp David Accords, and Nixon — Jesus, Nixon was a paranoid, crooked bastard, but he opened relations with China, got us out of the Vietnam War and created the EPA.
As for Bubble Boy, he considers the greatest moment of his presidency that time he caught a big fish while on vacation at his Potemkin ranch.
2008 is a loooong way away.

I wonder if Dubya ever has a moment of lucidy and asks himself “why do they hate me?”
Naw.
If I were Jenna or Barbara, I’d be a little peeved that the perch was better than my college graduation…
All of this is irrelevant. If he ran again tomorrow, people would still line up by the millions to vote for him.
six more points to beat nixon at his lowest.
YOU CAN DO IT BUSH! I KNOW YOU CAN!
