Mainly for how McCain has fought for lobbying reform. I am a liberal and a democrat, and had fun over at my blog trying to defend why I would vote for McCain while they wouldn’t.

Not to be attacking, but why? McCain has this reputation as a moderate which is completely at odds with his stances on pretty much every issue. He’s right wing to the bone.

Yes, it was pissy and immoderate… but left on page 7 of the comments on the Huffington Post. I still think it is getting over coverage… I mean here, atrios, skippy, heretik.

And I personally don’t think McCain has a thin skin… but I will admit I do like the guy.

The aide is also, by his own account, the co-author of McCain's speech. And his obnoxiousness is a reflection of the obnoxiousness of the speech itself. (Extended rant on the subject here.)

I’m with zuzu on this Mark. His response attempts to belittle Rohe, cast doubts on the sincerity of her motives, and ascribe a position of privilege to her that is baseless. Jean’s defense is fantastic.

I’d also like to find out if Mark Salter is a veteran, if he served in a war, and if he was a prisoner of war. Even if one were to give McCain the label of “hero” and for some reason reserve that term only to war heroes, Rohe is undoubtedly a braver and wiser person than Salter. She has proven herself as having a more credible voice than Salter.

Congratulations Salter – you’re an asshole and the whole world now knows. You are yet another instantiation of the poor company John McCain keeps.

Mark, he’s a high-ranking aide to a senator who’s gearing up to run for President. Don’t you think his reaction was a bit pissy and immoderate, considering? Why be that snotty and condescending to a college student?

Seems like maybe he got a little hot under the collar, and that the thin skin of the senator is shared by his staff.

Before I disagree, let me say fan of your writing and of Feministe as a whole…

Now I applaud Jean for standing up and taking her Graduation Speech and speaking for her thoughts and beliefs. Kudos.

But aren’t we blowing the comment left by the McCain aid just a little out of proportion? He left a comment that was buried 7 pages into the comments section… hardly a “full frontal” attack like going on sunday talk shows or writing an editorial for a newspaper. Who would have known that he said it if it wasn’t later republished on the front page of the Huffington Post?

I mean how is the aide “bullying” her by leaving a comment? Heck, he was more a troll than anything. I dunno if a comment deserves so much attention from our side…
