Another Daily News front page story slamming Coulter for her tactics:
Coulter, the hard-right pundit known for her above-the-knee hemlines and below-the-belt punchlines, wrote that “the Jersey Girls” love being 9/11 widows because it made them rich, gave them national attention and let them criticize President Bush without fear of reprisal.
“How do we know their husbands weren’t planning to divorce these harpies?” Coulter writes. “I’ve never seen people enjoying their husbands’ deaths so much.”
Gov. Pataki said yesterday that Coulter was “far worse than insensitive. … I have spoken with many, many grieving family members, and the hurt is real. The pain is real.”
Pataki, remember, is a Republican. And he has delusions of running for President — he’s always been pro-choice, but lately he’s been running away from that stance to appeal to the national GOP base (good luck with that one, George!). So for him, who’s been so wishy-washy, to come out and say something against Annie shows how much of a nerve she’s touched here.
Coulter singled out women because they criticized Bush, pushed to establish the 9/11 commission and argued that America’s security loopholes still haven’t been plugged.
They tried to stay above the name-calling fray yesterday, saying the nation shouldn’t focus on Coulter’s words but on security problems like porous borders, wasteful Homeland Security funding and intelligence agencies that don’t work together.
“Our only motivation ever was to make our nation safer,” they said in a statement. “We have been slandered. Contrary to Ms.Coulter’s statements, there was no joy in watching men that we loved burn alive. There was no happiness in telling our children that their fathers were never coming home again. We adored these men and miss them every day.”
But an unrepentant Coulter didn’t back down – instead using her book-flogging appearances yesterday to lash out again at the widows.
“The 9/11 widows are witches and harpies,” Coulter said, refusing to apologize for the scathing comments in her new book. “You can’t argue with them. You just have to listen.”
Of course, Ann loves all the attention. And she even has loyal fans in the New York area:
It was a great day for the conservative commentator, who always tries to stir up controversy in her syndicated columns – and worked hard yesterday to get even more attention for her fifth book.
“I’m thrilled,” she said on WNYW-TV yesterday morning, when she saw that News’ front page. “They can call me Coulter the Cruel for every one of these chapters.”
Later, when a Fox News anchor asked if she was being provocative just to sell books, she bragged that she was already rich. “Frankly,” she said, “I don’t need any more money.”
But if Coulter, 44, is selling outrage, she found plenty of buyers yesterday.
About 300 adoring fans came to see her at Book Revue in Huntington, L.I., where she signed books and did a live radio show with WABC-AM host Sean Hannity.
Not brave enough to do a book signing in Manhattan, I see. Come on, Ann, what are you afraid of? Pies? Widows you can’t criticize but still, somehow, do?
UPDATE: The General has some of the Amazon reviews from her fans. Truly, truly deranged stuff.
FWIW, I think that the Jersey Girls have the right response to Coulter: slightly outraged, calling her out on her slander, yet very clear what the issues really are. All the calls for her to apologize just fuel the sick fucks who worship the ground she walks on.

I’m so glad I don’t work at Barnes & Noble.
huh – too true.
I feel like it’s normal for a widow(er) to want to champion to rid the world of whatever they feel caused the death of their loved one. Widow(er)s who lose spouses to lung cancers become anti-smoking advocates, etc.. How is this any different, or distinctly more evil? These women aren’t GAINING anything from pushing their “cause” of trying to find out who was responsible for the intelligence breach and make sure 9/11 doesn’t happen again…
Coulter doesn’t make any sense.
Regardless of what she says, it’s all about money (ain’t a damn thing funny). Honestly, when was the last time you met someone who said they didn’t need/want more money–and actually meant it.
She’s a crafty, enterprising woman. Coulter realizes there’s a nasty tug-o-war going on between the Left and Right, so she’s chosen a side. Thus, she infuriates the Left by making comments similar to the ones about the 9/11 widows. The Right enjoys this, so they buy her books. She gets paid well for issuing her political opinion. Now how many of us can say the same?
I love how she quotes the story about Jesus and the moneylenders on national TV and doesn’t even blink at the irony.
Her words are flatly disgusting.
Yep, and it applies beyond spouses. It’s the entire basis for Mothers Against Drunk Driving. And you know what? People can certainly find fault with the direction that organization has taken and criticize the policies its members advocate without making vile statements about them enjoying the deaths of their children and telling them that they should just shut up.
I’m sure Coulter is laughing all the way to the bank.
However, I’m willing to bet that she wouldn’t be so cocky if she had had to look those women in the face. She’s probably the same type of bully that Limbaugh is…she’s happy to spew her filth in front of an adoring audience of bootlicking fans, but to stand in front of actual human beings who can get in her face and tell her what a piece of excrement she is…
She’d get her ass kicked if she tried that.
She would say it in front of the widows… although it would have to be an arranged meeting and someone paying her to do it.
All about the Benjamin’s baby…
Coulter.
Hope that convict her of election fraud. I’ve never seen such a nasty, scuzzy person.
you know what makes me want to cry about all of this? Why can’t we have a lefty spokesperson who says truth and speaks it as blatently as she does?
Wouldn’t that be a bee in her bonnet?
Note that she didn’t have any book signings in New York City. If the widows weren’t going to confront her — and it sounds like they were trying to stay above it — then she would have had trouble from cops and firefighters and pretty much anyone else who was affected.
I’m frankly surprised by how civil the left is about this stuff. Fringe elements of the right commit hate crimes all the time, lose people their jobs, out bloggers, picket abortion providers’ homes, etc. We’re too nice.
We have guys like Al Franken and John Stewart. Either of those guys can eviscerate Coulter easily and humorously in any debate. Because they are “comedians” and not outright controversy whores like Coulter, they are for some bizarre reason taken less seriously.
I think the real problem is that the Right sticks together kind of no matter what, with a pack mentality, and the Left keeps being hindered by free-thinking and objective reasoning. We are more critical and less supportive of our Leftist peers because there is always some percent of the position we question. Unlike the collective, socialist Leftists of the the past, we are a particularly in-cohesive group. I am hopeful there are signs that this is changing…
Coulter was fired from that National Review for, well, being Ann Coulter, and saying things that Ann Coulter says. There are plenty people on the right who wish she would just shut up, and have said so, publically.
Meanwhile, the righties continue to rally around the hag:
http://mediamatters.org/items/200606080009
David Horowitz called her a “national treasure” on Faux News. Mary Matalin whined about the backlash on Imus.
i mean, come on! it’s coulter.she don’t want to come up with real arguments instead of offensive headlines.it works for her and her base.
i think, personally,it’s the new post universal ADD world that we live in.and of that we all are more or less guilty.it’s got to be short ,concise and ,if posible, funny.otherwise we are not paying attention….only, sometimes, issues and its solutions aren’t either.
of course i despise coulter words, but it’s like the kid crying for no reason,it’s the need for attention syndrome.
funny is that the same day the coulter book came out,an interesting book from greg palast (american ,bbc reporter) .armed madhose was also making its debut .
but i could not see him on mainstream media half as much as i’ve seen coulter,or at all.
maybe is because it’s an investigative report on a wide array of the issues on the table of political america and it’s supose to bring facts to help us understand what’s going on.but we don’t get the chance to know about it.
it’s not as promissing as the (9/11 widows-harpies who love to see their husbands die) headline….
i would put a link to the book, but i’m not working for them.if you are interested, you’ll find it on the net.
Ann Coulter is a political satirist and everyone knows that. I don’t know why you would even pay her any mind her marketing scheme depends on your controversy. She wins every time you open your mouth. Why do liberals champion “freedom of speech” until a conservative speaks out. They have the same rights as liberals do.
