Harrison I think you miss the part where muslim extremists purposely target innocent civilians. Atleast when the U.S. kills civilians it is un intentional. Living in a free country doesn't mean that we can't use force while we have a group morons trying to kill US. Forcing a secular ideology is just as bad as christians forcing their ways.

From the Times article on China:

They don't want people to have any power. That's the big goal of the government.

Does there come a point where the US government and US business interests try to reconcile their desire to build strong economic ties with China with the fact that the PRC is a repressive, totalitarian regime?

I know Chris Smith and Tom Lantos were working on legislation this past February that would have banned US tech firms from helping China (or any other nation) build its internet censorship apparatus, but as far as I know their bill was never introduced. Unfortunately it looks like more damage will be done to individual freedom in China before the US tries to use its influence to create positive change.

I have come to the private conclusion that the holy rollers hate Muslims out of sheer envy. Pat Robertson and his ilk must cajole, manipulate and preen their 'audience', while the Ayatollahs command obedience by brute force. It only reminds them of the work they have ahead of them.

And yes Nerd, I've said for awhile that what the libertarians need is a one way ticket to Africa, name the country. If you think corporate domination is a good thing, then Nigeria is your place. If you want freedom from gubmint, then by all means, catch the next plane to your homeland on the east coast of Africa.

There is already a wingnut on the west coast I believe Congo? caught shipping in submachine guns, attempting to start his own military-christian coup. Heard things weren't going so good for him though. Wish I had the link, saw it on J.C. General's blog some time ago.

I don't know; I think maybe they'd prefer a theocracy along the lines of Iran--a Christian theocracy, of course! They're working on it in this country, anyway...all the while excoriating those intolerant Muslims...
