Fat Doug Lovers Unite

I’m mildly flattered that someone is going by the name of Fat Doug Lover at Pandagon because a part of me has to believe that this pseudonym references my fat Doug.

Lounging

That is all.

That has to be the reference. Thou shalt have no other Dougs before Fat Doug.

I have been wondering about this guy’s handle:

Is he a guy who loves Fat Doug?

Is he a fat guy who loves Doug?

Or is he a fat guy named Doug who is a lover?

I think a lot about how people come up with their handles. Personally, I think it would be a great thread. What does your handle mean, and why did you name your blog whatever you named it, and what’s the hidden reference that only you are privy to? I bet tons of people are dying to answer that question. So if you do decide to have a thread like that, Lauren, make sure you give me credit for the idea ;)

Agreed kactus, that would be a pretty awesome thread :) Of course, we could just hijack this one :P

Mine’s boring anyway though – Arianna was my first Dungeons and Dragons character, a Half Elf/Celestial Druid. For anyone in the know, yes that is rather um… odd. I blame my DM – I asked him if I could be an Aasimar, but he got half-celestials and Aasimars switched in his head, so he informed me that Aasimars are ‘overpowered’ and that I could be a half-celestial instead. Either way, I was 15 and in the tradition of 15-year-old Fantasy nuts, came up with my name by plugging words into Welsh and Gaelic dictionaries. What I came up with was Ariannabenyw Bresbrenwylydd or something along those lines, which got cut down to Arianna, which is the name I’ve used for almost everything since.

I had a dog named Doug (full name Douglas Funbody) and I used to refer to him as the only boyfriend I’ve ever had. He wan’t fat, just kind of podgy. I had an email and commenter identity as him for awhile, but it was painful after he died. My identities sometimes are tailored to the blog I’m commenting on, so at General J.C. Christian’s I am Miss Albanian Sworn Virgin. Elsewheres, I have somewhat stable identities as either dharmadyke or as B. Dagger Lee. It just kind of happened that way.

But if you see me on the street, please pretend not to recognize me.

yrs, Douglas Funbody aka dharmadyke aka B. Dagger Lee

But I’m not Fat Doug Lover, (except in my heart).

ooh, ooh, can I join the Fat Doug Lovers club? Caveat: I only want to join if the aforementioned Fat Doug refers to Lauren’s fat cat Doug.

I always just figured “Fat Doug Lover” was a mafia wife.

I thought it was his hip hop name. Like he’s Fat Doug and he Loves the Ladies. Maybe like FDLL.

I thought he was Jane Hamsher secretly trolling my blog, what with the initials FDL and all. No blackface pictures yet, though…

Damn you beat me to it, but I do even like the leopard print chair that zuzu’s cat zuzu has been seen to hang out on.

Kactus: Probably the style changes a little, since each one reminds me of different traits. dharmadyke tries to be kinder and more generous. B. Dagger is well, tougher, and more of a B. Dagger. They hold exactly the same political viewpoints, which have, however, changed somewhat since reading this blog and a few others. And that would be a good question to go with your one on picking handles–how have you changed as a result of reading this blog? Ch-ch-changes!

dharmadyke lives with Karma June and B. Dagger lives with Miss Patsy. Miss Albanian Sworn Virgin lives with her “roomate” Major Barbara, and IS NOT a lesbian, whatever those nasty french people down the hall may be telling you.

It had just happened that way before I realized I would drive myself insane. I also hadn’t realized there was so much cross-reading and posting between the blogs I was reading. And then I realized there was a weird ethical dimension to the whole thing too.

Does anyone know why spammers do that? What’s their angle/benefit from commenting gobbledy-gook? Are they looking for security holes?

    Arianna 8.13.2006 at 8:20 am |

Likely just looking for security holes. I’m suprised they found one – doesn’t every comment on this blog get moderated?

How could anyone not love your Fat Doug?
By the by, would any of you cat people like some kiwi trimmings for your beasties? It has a catnippish effect on some cats; we recently tried it on the exceedingly staid cat of a friend, and it sent him into modified ecstasy. The damn vine is eating the fence.

That would be some kiwifruit, I hope, Ledasmom
    (from a nervous kiwi)

Kiwifruit vine trimmings, yes, of course. I am neither so presumptuous as to think I’d have any luck pruning kiwis, human, nor so agile as to try trimming kiwis, birds. Nor, if I did so, would the cats be particularly interested.
