Caffiene has many health benefits. Unfortunately, the level of consumption at which they arise, the 5-6 cup per day level, is also the level of consumption at which the detriments arise.
They’re both right. Near the bottom of the NY Times article, it says that “especially during exercise at high altitudes,” two cups of coffee can dramatically decrease blood flow to the heart. Why anyone would drink coffee while working out, I don’t know.
If you don’t have any preexisting heart conditions, I’d say drink to your heart’s content; otherwise, limit yourself.
