I’ve got Bush’s press conference right now, and he’s just said that he and Rumsfeld agree that it’s time for new leadership at the Pentagon. One whole sentence on this point from CNN confirms.

The new nominee is Bob Gates, the current president of…Texas A&M.

Bush is also disappointed in the tone of things in Washington. *snerk*

And former director of the CIA. One of Poppy’s picks?

I was wondering that. (They didn’t mention that he was former director of the CIA until a minute or two later.) Either way, clearly a Texas boy through and through.

I first read this as Bill Gates…not sure if that would have been an improvement or not, but it would have been…interesting.

It pains me to say that as a Longhorn, but A & M does have 50,000 students and is generally well-respected as an academic institution.

I mean, its President used to be waist-deep in the Iran-Contra scandal and is probably a disingenuous clone of the last failed Secretary of Defense, but apart from that…

Makes me think the PNAC crowd – including and especially Cheney – are going to be nudged to the sidelines as Poppy and Poppy’s Pals try to remove some of the tarnish from the Bush legacy. Gates at Defense, Jim Baker in a central role. I’d advise against taking any hunting trips with Cheney any time soon.

Bush is also disappointed in the tone of things in Washington.

Chickens meet Roost. Roost, Chickens.

Chicklet, I don’t know why I think that’s so funny, but it totally gave me the giggles.
