I’m staying with my lovely sister, enjoying T-day in Washington D.C. with her, my mama, and a friend of hers. Last night, on my way to her place, I accidentally tried to walk into the side entrance to the White House (the gate was open!), thinking it was a path to the street I needed to get to. The guard clearly thought I was an idiot, and explained in no uncertain terms that if I took another step, I would be promptly arrested. Oh Washington — you sure are different from New York. One more thing to add to the list of things I’m thankful for: Not getting arrested on suspicions of attempting to assassinate the president.
Hope your holiday is as exciting as mine.

I think I know that former short cut. I used to take it all the time, before it was closed to the public. It is a bit depressing to think of how open the city was a couple decades ago and how our government has been made more distant from us in recent years. Unfortunately, what security takes away is never returned.
I too am thankful you escaped from the clutches of security and were able to enjoy the holiday with your family and friends.
Happy Thanksgiving, Jill. Rainy and cloudy here in the Emerald City.
Isn’t it rainy and cloudy in Seattle from September until June?
I can’t wait to get back there for winter break, though. I miss all my favorite foods, and my puppy. And it’s a hell of a lot warmer there than in NY.
