As Craig Ferguson says in this instant classic monologue, you don’t need a fancy rehab joint. There’s a group of people you can meet with every week for free, and they’re right at the front of your phone book. He’s known them for 15 years.

*sigh* That woman is enough to make me consider playing for the other team. Her voice is incredible!

She just broke up w/ her boyfriend. I hope that doesn’t spell too much trouble for her (She has a history of anorexia, bulemia, brawling, and alcoholism). She’s known for being sensitive, especially about love. Love “Rehab” and “Back to Black” (song and album).

The Dap Kings do a great job backing Amy Winehouse on the entire record. They truly are one of the great soul bands of the day. Winehouse is a fine vocalist. However, when it comes to vocalists fronting the Dap Kings, I’ll see your Winehouse and raise you Sharon Jones:

Is that the Dap kings on there? No wonder it sounds so good/ I’m definately gonna have to get me that album. I love the Sharon Jones and the Dap kings album I got – it’s awesome old school soul/funk. Gorgeous stuff.

I just wish Amy Winehouse wasn’t quite so rude in person…She goes to my local in Camden and she stares at everyone like they’re scum.

I knew there was a reason I loved that song so much. I saw Sharon Jones’s 50th Birthday show at Irving Plaza last year. Damn good.

Been listening to that song, and the rest of the CD for days. Shades of Motown and Nina Simone in there. Seriously.

Oh the Rehab tip, I became freinds with Craig Ferguson’s friends about about the same time 15 years ago. I had a moment of clarity in which I realized nobody had the money to put me in rehab.

How many male soul legends does she mention in this song? I counted three: Ike Turner, Ray Charles, and Donny Hathaway.

That’s because I’m hearing one line as “Ike ain’t got the time.”

I have her album, and it’s amazing. She’s got such a fantastic voice.

Does the CD include lyrics? I’ve been trying to figure out if she’s referencing the musicians I think she is in this son.

Hathaway and Charles, yes. I’m pretty sure she’s singing “I ain’t got the time” where you’re hearing “Ike ain’t got the time” though.

The lyrics are on line. According to that transcription, she references Hathaway and Charles, but not Ike. It makes sense in the tune as “I ain’t got the time”

@8 I recommend both Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings albums. Winehouse is getting press lately as a bit of a train wreck about to happen. I hope she pulls it together. She’s talented (though there’s a long paper waiting to be written about why she’s experiencing such success while Sharon Jones isn’t garnering the same media exposure). Here’s a video example of what I mean about the train wreck. It’s Winehouse performing with Charlotte Church, looking drunk and sounding awful to the song “Beat It”.

Terrance, I’ve heard that the line “I’d rather stay at home with Ray” is a reference to her friend Tanqueray. But the Ray Charles name-drop works as well :-)

Sad to say, I’d never heard any of her stuff before. Heard the name here and there, but out here on base nobody listens to stuff like this, and sometimes I miss things. She’s ridiculously good. So, thanks for the intro folks.

That line really does sound like “Ike”, but I don’t imagine it’s particularly fashionable to be name-dropping Ike Turner nowdays.
