Abstinence only “education” programs are chock full of misogyny , are hetero-centric, and are totally ineffective. This we know.
Yet the Bush administration has allotted more and more money to them at every turn.
That’s the bad news.
The good news? With the help of the new Democrat-controlled Congress, that might be about to change. Jessica’s got the word that Congressional Democrats are planning to let Title V — the main funding stream for federal abstinence only programs like the one Jill wrote about here – quietly die.
How’s that for legislative inactivism?

Congress is one of those rare, great institutions that can actually be more productive doing absolutely nothing than actively trying to solve problems.
I love it when Dems being slow, unorganized and in most ways, sissified, works to the betterment of everyone. :D
Let us all do nothing, so that it might do something good. Huzzah!
Technically speaking, they won’t be letting Title V lapse–Title V is part of the Social Security Act and pays for all manner of maternal and child health services, with the abstinence-only funding being a small part of that.
So what’s gonna replace it?
Abstinence-Never funding?
I really, really hope that the program quietly dies. I also enjoy how often change is made passively. I do want to know, like others, what’s going to replace the program, should it die. *fears for future*
