I left my plug converter in the library, and my computer’s battery is going to die in exactly 4 minutes. I won’t be getting the converter back for another 15 hours or so, which means that I will not be around to moderate comments. Which means that some of your comments will inevitably get stuck in the mod queue. I know it’s annoying, but please be patient and please chill — unless you’re being an asshole, we aren’t censoring you or moderating you on purpose.
The up side: My computer can no longer distract me from studying for the EU Consumer Law exam that I will be taking at 9am tomorrow morning. Joy.

Ummm….
Isn’t the dude in that video a bit too tall to be a troll. Always thought they were supposed to be under 3′ in height. :)
Size queen!
Advice given too late to be of any use: Buy another plug converter. You can never have too many ways to charge a laptop.
New on…science blogs…
Kate reviews the latest paper by Ellen Ketterson et al. and since she did it so well, I decided not to do it myself, as it comes too close to my own stuff… Mountain Top Removal? See why this is……
Roxanne,
Size is important in defining trolls…..weren’t they supposed to be 3 feet or shorter creatures of mythical lore? :)
Aw… I’m always forgetting things (who isn’t?), so I know how much it sucks. A question, though: does this mean there is some criteria for which comments go into the mod queue?
Just curious.
Yes. A commenter’s first comment automatically goes into the mod queue. After that, we have a whole, very long list of words that get automatically moderated if you use them. Most are commonly-used spam words, but some are IP addresses and user names of people we’ve decided to moderate. If we decide to put you on moderation, we tell you. The problem is that a lot of the moderated words are really common — for example, the word “moderate” is one of our moderated words, and any comment with “moderate” in any form (moderated, moderates, etc) will get moderated. So this comment will be moderated for sure.
Other common words used on this blog are unfortunately also used in porn spam (go figure) so those get moderated as well.
What definition are you using for “troll”?
Because Dungeons and Dragons definition, of which I am quite familiar with defines “trolls” as 10′ft tall, huge GREEN monsters that eat 3′ garden gnomes for breakfast….
I seem to be on permanent moderation, but at least don’t remember you telling me that I was. It is, of course, possible that you emailed me and my stupid email program thought your email was spam and ate it. Or maybe I just have an excessive fondness for words requiring moderation?
Hmm… that’s odd, Dianne. You aren’t on moderation, and I just checked the mod queue to make sure. I’m sorry you’re getting moderated. If I figure out what it is, I’ll fix it.
loosely twisted,
Sorry, am not familiar with Dungeons & Dragons. The definition I’m using comes from a snippet of childhood memory that causes me to automatically associate trolls with short 3′ creatures with large ears and a great capacity to annoy others.
