Perhaps I’m turning into a prude in my old age…

But I find this video I just saw on German MTV really disturbing:

I also find it hilarious, so maybe I’m not so prudish after all (and who doesn’t love little red hot pants and mini-yet-slightly-creepier-Justins with German accents?). But how old are these kids? 14?

A quick poll: Who has created the most hilariously bad music video — Jimi Blue (above), or Emmy Rossum?

They’re funny in such different ways, I’m not sure which I appreciate more. But I may have to go with Emmy for the sheer Enya-ness of it all.

And while we’re discussing really crappy songs and videos…

Is it just me, or does this song (warning: not very feminist-friendly or work-safe):

Vaguely remind anyone else of this?

God, when you sent me that Emmy video, I think it gave me a stomach bug. The nausea was days of work to overcome it.

Oh, I think definitely the Emmy video. She went to the Celine Dion school of overproduced and overacted videos, and I am hugely entertained by all of it. It is just so, so literal.

I love the ascot in the Jimi Blue video, so I think that’s my choice.

Ack! That little boy is creepy. He’s too young to be in a video like that. And how old are those little girls? eww.

The Emmy video is silly but I love her clothes–especially the long red dress. And she’s so pretty!

I can’t tell you which is worst; I’m still in shock that there’s an MTV channel that still plays videos.

Wow, which steaming pile of crap is smellier? I can’t watch more than 30 seconds of either. It’s stuff like this (not to mention that repellent 50-Cent rape-apologia) that has led to me not giving a squirt about music anymore. “Grumble grumble, kids today…”

I think Emmy’s been listening to too much Imogen Heap.

The first one strikes me as a rich kid’s 8th grade English class project. It also reminds me of my 3rd level German, when my class made those Munchausen videos. Good times.

just looking at the still image for the first video, I thought it was for some old-school britney spears video. it kinda looks like her circa 19 years old.

IMDB says Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht will be 16 on December 27. His dad is a German actor, Uwe Ochsenknecht. (Ochsenknecht basically means Steward.) The whole family, including mama Natascha, brother Wilson Gonzales, and sister Cheyenne, made a movie in 2003 called the Wild Soccer Bunch.

This is what passes for German hiphop.

MTV in Deutschland shows videos in the morning, as I recall.

FWIW, the Jimi Blue video struck me as more lame than disturbing, and I’m probably as prudish as any of your regular posters. (I knew I was middle-aged the first time I looked at a sexy teenage girl and my first thought was, “How the hell could her parents have let her out of the house dressed like that?”)

I still can’t believe how filtered that Emmy Rossum song is…she wants people to believe she has a great voice, so why can’t we, umm, hear it?

It also wins. Her overacting > German lad’s smirkiness

I like it when Jimi rhymes “like it” with “like it.” I think it’s clever.

Wait – that guy in the rap video…is that Shannon Daurghty’s brother from 90210?

    Jimi Blue. No contest.

Uch. That Emmy Rossum video bugs, but the more I think about the song itself the more it pisses me off. I think that maybe she should figure a way to slow herself the fuck down as opposed to pleading to an outside source to take charge of her. The passivity, just, blech.

They all suck but the German one really takes it. How can anyone watch little white kids jump around and call that hip-hop in the American sense?

The 50-cent video is just typical fantasy of big money, male power, woman submissive, a world of no consent, ad naseum, sickening yes, unusual no.

Here’s some hardcore German rap for you, from 2004.

Here’s the weirdest video I saw in Europe, by a Scando-Iranian.

Hector, those videos were kinda funny, the Germans trying to intimidate (the skull masks kinda cool) and the Bollywood — well I like listening to middle eastern and Indian music even if I have no idea what they are saying.

The singer in the last would be a little more appealing as a tough macho if he didn’t look so much like he works nights at a computer tech call line or as a salesman at Best Buy.
