Feministe Is Looking For a Sweatsuit Alternative

We’re designing a new look for Feministe that will take shape over the next couple of weeks, including updating to the latest version of WordPress and updating the general design, and hopefully bringing back some of your favorite elements like sidebar comments.

However.

Because Feministe has been having server issues — and we’re trying desperately to find a new, affordable host — some advertising elements will have to be expanded. Additionally, we have to perform the updates in real time.

If you notice some wonkiness please bear with us.

Regarding hosting, may I recommend DreamHost?

Can you fix it so there aren’t any weird Javascript errors on the dashboard?

What kind of errors are you getting?

I don’t really know, but when I go to the main page, it hangs up and tells me there are errors. I use Firefox, and don’t seem to have this problem on the IE I have to use at work.

You might need to update your browser. We’ll see if the WP upgrade helps.

Oh, you’re not really looking for a literal sweatsuit alternative. Because I’m actually in the process of looking for a sweatsuit. I outgrew my old one. :(

I’m a web developer, and we use pair.com for hosting. Their tech support is awesome, and they keep their servers up to date. Complete hosting is something like $300/yr.

    I’m loving the new layout!

Safari doesn’t really like the new site, it seems. It looked pretty bland and badly arranged, some pages didn’t load at all but after several times of reloading it looks awsome.

Um, is it just me or are the numbers next to the comments missing?

Adding the numbered comments back into the theme…

I really like the new layout, but could the text be in the middle again? Maybe you could move the archives/blogroll or the ads to the left side? The lack of symmetry is giving me anxiety…

Eh, I guess I’ll get over it eventually.

Hey, it’s made by the same people and written by the same people. Don’t call her a sell-out because she got a makeover.

    I’m working on it.

I do like the primary posts justified to the left, personally, because if I’m using my work computer or a minimized window the new content is automatically justified to the left. It’s a personal preference, but we should be able to employ that as an option. Let me see if I can fix that.

I’m with commenter #19 in some respects.

I could be biased, as I’ve never been one to like three-column sites (except for the rare case)—they appear cluttered. Which is the feeling I’m getting.

Perhaps the two sidebars could be of skinnier width?

Or, move the archives to their own page, and merge the recent comments and links and etc. to the ads sidebar, which, really, is getting it back to one sidebar. I’m sure there’s a reason you went with two sidebars.

The main content (the posts) should be given priority—they should stick out, so I think the main content needs to be widened with the sidebars shrunk. I’m not here for the sidebar stuff, I’m here for the posts.

    My ten cents.

Also, the Edit link for each comment shows up even though I’m not signed in!
