Nope, nothing problematic there.
But thank God that John McCain — that maverick, totally moderate, not-a-politician-like-the-other-guys, different kind of candidate — would never ever pick a guy like Huckabee to be his running mate. Because, you know, he’s such a maverick and not beholden to the religious right nutjobs. Right?
Yeah, just like the Maverick isn’t beholden to pretty, blonde lobbyists who are 30 years younger than he is.

I keep thinking that Huckabee can’t get any more twisted and frightening — but then I read something new.

I hope he does. Rather than do something awful like pick Condoleezza Rice or god forbid, Joe Lieberman. It’d be nice to have his running mate be someone so easy to pick apart.
Maverick’s campaign is writing checks his candidacy can’t cash.
Abortion would only be comparable to slavery if all the plantations were inside Scarlett O’Hara’s uterus.
Admittedly it would explain why she was always so put out.
I am not so hopeful that if Huckles is Old Maverick’s partner the country will really care too much, afterall some might think, a VP really doesn’t do much…at least not that the press is inclined to focus on when there’s celebrities and presidents to portion out over the news time.
It seems to me people here will need a real taste of what oppression is, that is the people who enjoy exercising their religious freedom with the irregular and hypocritical fervor they are used to, the people who have enjoyed changing their minds and whims within the flexible fabric of democracy.
So many have no idea of the bitterness of Theocracy Soup and its lingering effects on the digestive system. Nothing like a prod up the ass to get someone moving and Huckles has that prod, albeit, hidden in his cloak of kindness somewhere.
I think, though, that the very reason Huckabee won’t get picked as McCain’s VP is present right there in that article. He basically calls the “state’s rights” argument bogus, which isn’t going to sit too well with the ultraconservatives who are campaigning to dismantle every last agency and service of the federal government (except for the military) and dump those responsibilities onto state and local governments. Many of the well-known right-wing blowhards like Limbaugh and Ingraham who have been hammering McCain so hard for supposedly being “too liberal” have been hammering Huckabee just as hard for viewpoints like that one; that’s why they were all polishing Romney’s knob so vigorously leading up to Super Tuesday.
If Huckleberry doesn’t get the VP nod, it’ll be interesting to see how the evangelical right wing responds; maybe they’ll just stay the f$#@ home. And what a wonderful Election Day that would be.
Yeah, I’ve heard that William Wilberforce, the 18th century British MP who was one of the leaders in the campaign to abolish slavery in the British empire, has been iconized by the anti-abortion activists because of his willingness to stand up politically for his religious beliefs (ie that slaves were humans too). So once again, Huckabee is using language that’s sort of code for the religious right saying “I’m on your side.”

Not even the “states rights” folks believe in State’s rights. They use whatever tactic or slogan will work to get the win their way. If the SCOTUS says abortion laws are illegal (Roe v Wade) then they blather about State’s Rights. But have the chance of losing an election because of how a single state is counting its ballots (Bush v Gore), then they have to head right to that same SCOTUS and toss state’s rights out the window.
They have no abiding principals, other than “win.”
It’s the fantasy of the proles. They wish they had the stones to be abolitionists. Not really. Most are white supremecists(sic) and prefer to live apart from the ancestors of slaves.
They want the mantle of righteousness, to partake in a noble quest. Like the Crusaders, it is delusional.
