My favorite stories today are Leveraging the Power of Race and Gender, about how the candidates should be talking about the impact of identity on global politics; and The Medical Right Falls Hard for Ultrasounds — Often at the Expense of Women’s Health (also at RH Reality Check). Ultrasounds are the latest in anti-choice activism, and I often have a hard time articulating why it’s bad that pregnant woman should be forced (or coerced) into viewing an ultrasound of their fetus if they’re considering terminating a pregnancy. This article does a great job of explaining why it’s not only unnecessary, but dangerous — and another example of anti-choice groups disregarding women’s health and well-being in the name of ideology.
But there are lots of pieces worth noting and checking out, so I hope you’ll head over there and give it a look.

Yeah, the antis really flock to RH Reality Check for some reason. I suspect it’s because the site is so thorough and comprehensive that they see what a threat it is.
Most people who are excited about pregnancy don’t mind this, but
ultrasounds are actually really uncomfortable. You basically have
to fill your bladder to the point of bursting while someone prods
at your uterus. Not fun. Probably even less fun if the person
doing the prodding thinks you’re an evil slut that needs to
“experience consequences.”
When you are a prolifer, anybody making a decent wage is “hugely funded”. An RN will make about 40K doing clinic work. Randall Terry, the former leader of Operation Retard, was a used-car salesman and was long considered wealthy by the followers. Given that he worked in Binghamton NY, I would put his wage at 14K in a good year.
Doctors, those evil practioners of the dark scientific arts, are beyond avarice with incomes in the 120K-200K range. Those who live in NY, LA or DC can stop laughing now.
