As a Hillary supporter who will be voting for John McCain I can honestly say we have looked at this from the point of view of who is best qualified to lead this country. Obama does not have the experience to do so. Also I find it very hard to vote for a candidate who would vote AGAINST a bill that would allow an infant that survived an abortion gone wrong medical care. How could anyone just let a baby die like that. He voted AGAINST this bill while in the Illinois legislature. Obama also has policies that will not only raise our taxes, but he changes his views depending on who he is giving a speech to. Yes, it is true, MILLIONS of us Hillary supporters are voting for John McCain because for the time our country is in right now we need someone with experience. If you go to www.chicagoagainstobama.com you will see what he did for Chicago, and it was NOTHING. I hope before all of you vote you will really look at Obama's record because the future of our children depends on it.

Charity, it's clear you've missed the huge wave of angry white women HRC supporters in the blogosphere and the making racist comments (geraldine ferraro, people at Shakesville, etc). As well as ww who angrily announced that they're voting for an overt misogynist like McCain.

Mary, I disagree with many of your comments, but what stood out to me the most was this line you used in your post -

"Isn’t it a continuation of the ’sweetie’ comment he flippantly and smugly threw at that poor female reporter?"

Say what!? Poor female reporter? What poor female reporter, where'd she go? Did she have some unfortunate accident I didn't hear about? Please lay off the poor victim routine.

You also mention more than once the "misogynists’ frat-boy antics" employed by Obama and the media. Gee Mary, if you are serious about that comment you couldn't go past McCain when it comes to that sort of behavior. Ask his former wife, the beauty he dumped after a disfiguring accident, and left Ross Perot to pick up the medical bills. Maybe I will leave the last word to Ross Perot himself, he seems to have the character of McCain summed up -

‘McCain is the classic opportunist. He’s always reaching for attention and glory,’ he said.

‘After he came home, Carol walked with a limp. So he threw her over for a poster girl with big money from Arizona. And the rest is history.’ (Ross Perot)

Very classy guy eh Mary. (And your bothered by Obama tapping Michelle's butt)

I would just like to draw people’s attention to a particularly misogynistic and racist attack against Michelle that made me nearly vomit when I first saw it. Thankfully, What About Our Daughters has highlighted this

Holy shit! I know that just about any asshole can post anything s/he wants on DailyKos but ... holy shit!

McCain is a moderate and he’ll get some HRC supporters for sure.

On what planet is McCain a moderate? He voted for torture. He has a ZERO rating from Planned Parenthood (Obama has a 100 percent rating, as does Clinton). He has explicitly said that he will appoint conservative judges like John Roberts. He votes with the Republican Party 83% of the time. He does have some vague sense that global warming is bad, but he's not going to go against his corporate masters and actually do anything about it.

McCain is NOT a moderate by any stretch of the imagination. Please stop lying.

I do feel that he has displayed misogynist covert commentary and actions and he has gotten away with them because of media’s overfawning–and has directly benefitted from same, being ‘pushed’ to the superdel finish line by a more blatantly displayed misogyny by the media frat-boys.

You call yourselves “FEministe” site. But do you ever scrutinize Sen. Obama’s sexist comments: “Her claws came out” “Periodically, she gets moody, feels down and attacks….” come on now, Feministe, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT….

You're right, Mary, I'll send Senator Obama a message on his blackberry RIGHT AWAY.

Christ, Zuzu covered both of the "claws came out" and "moody" comments. I covered the "sweetie" situation (and got shit for it, btw). And for fuck's sake, Obama did not flip off Hillary Clinton. He's not a child, he was scratching his damn nose. There's been a hell of a lot more gender-based analysis of this election on this site than there has been race-based analysis -- and look, here's some more gender-based analysis right now. What more would you like?

Don Imus was justly fired over racist comments and Barack himself wrote a letter to NBC about this. but I heard not a sound from him while the Hillary-bashing wagon was going by him in full view! Of course he was sole benefactor. But he gave a speech on Race and played hte race-bait card throughout. No one would touch him–there are laws against Racist commentary and you can lose your job.

Right, because I remember the speech that Hillary gave on racism in the election. Is there a reason that we're not holding her to the same standard? And if racist commentary is not allowed, why do Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, Chris Matthews and Ann Coulter all still have jobs?

Back in 2005 in Bahgdad, Sen. McCain was asked about Hillary’s possible presidential ambitions and this is whtat he said: “I have no doubt Sen. Clinton would make a great president” he responded to Tim Russert. He has respect and that’s something that Obam has not shown to HRC or to women in general!

Yeah, and that time he laughed when someone called Hillary Clinton a bitch, and said that asking "how we beat the bitch?" was a good question? Shhhh. The time he called his wife a cunt in public? Uh, oops.

Also: legal thuggery???? You're perfectly fine saying that the phrase "periodically moody" is absolutely without a doubt misogynistic, but you're fine referring to a black politician as engaging in "legal thuggery?" Hmm.

As a black woman, a feminist, a first generation American, and as a human being, I think that such imagery, with its explicit hyper-sexualization of a black woman and simultaneous exploitation of the painful history of racial terrorism against blacks in the US (not to mention the reminder of the continued dual subjugation of a black woman as a woman and as a black person juxtaposed with the gender and racial privilege of white men), is at best evidence of even the so-called-left's poor understanding of what black women, including those who are well-educated and upstanding citizens and provide a beautiful example for ALL women, have to overcome on a daily basis.

I hope that we as feminists, united for a common cause, will continue to draw attention to such attacks on Michelle as a woman, and rally behind her with our support and our voice.

I would go on, but I have a bar exam to study for... Peace.
