"Even if it is fake, I like the idea of girls seeing that and saying, 'hey, maybe I can catch a ball like that someday'."

I'd like to see gender walls break down, and see girls and boys e.g., playing baseball together, period. I'd also like to see large, successful leagues of women's high school, college, and professional baseball and other sports, if there were enough interested women to play, and screw opinions it might be somehow less entertaining or less exciting than when men play. If people demanded only the most entertaining or exciting spectacle, they wouldn't watch most non-professional (or less than international level competition) sports at all.

Why is mixed P.E. class so often kickball, dodgeball, or softball? Why not play "male oriented" games together as well? If girls are allegedly less proficient or developed, how are they supposed to gain proficiency or strength to compete in mixed groups or on "men's" teams? I never became skilled at any sports myself (and am seriously unfit), because my parents never devoted themselves to promoting it (my older brother was the focus, participating in about seven sports in elementary school, and even he was forced to cut it back to just baseball at the age of nine, for my working parents' sakes), and I never received mental conditioning to enjoy competitive sports. My rural playmates and I preferred getting dirty adventuring in our own backyards doing things no longer socially acceptable like climbing trees, throwing rocks, breaking things, blowing things up, playing with fire, or using bb guns without adult permission or supervision.

Fortunately, we were never seriously or permanently injured. And please supervise your children this week if fireworks are allowed in your jurisdiction.

Wow, I can’t believe anyone would believe that was for real.

Correct, but humans can use two perpendicular walls in order to quickly scales a structure. Hell, its a sport in France...

Baseball type stuff: it's very rare to see someone climb the man like that, but a couple years ago Ichiro Spiderman-ed his way up the centerfield wall to pull back a homerun and make the out, so similar (though not quite as impressive) things do happen.

This video is fake, HOWEVER, it was inspired by two real catches by a ballgirl named Lindsey Ferris at a 1996 Yankees-Mariners games. They were on the first-base side of the field and she snagged a few foul balls -- nothing involving climbing, but definitely major-league level catches (that got her props from players on the field and the announcers). I've seen the real video, but alas, MLB seems to have pulled it due to copyright. Siiiiigh.

So, for those of you too stupid to think for yourselves: no, a human being cannot jump above than their own standing height.

Duh.

And for those of you too stupid to watch the video, it looked like she used the walls to pull herself up.

Wow, I can’t believe anyone would believe that was for real.

It goes to show why we have such a hard time striking down myths and rumors about our political candidates, our country, and basic scientific facts if people believe everything they see and read online.

I could tell it was fake, but I do love the announcer's commentary: "Take that, Jake! I don't see you making the effort." Very cute ad.
