I was away from the computer all day yesterday so I didn’t get around to putting this post up. It’s a day late, but hopefully you’ll all self-promote anyway.

I blogged about g0y’s a new identity of gay men who are very controversial and accused of being closeted, homophobic, and sexist
http://queersunited.blogspot.com/2008/07/open-forum-g0ys-new-identity-or.html
I also blogged about how we must hold Jamaica accountable for Anti-queer violence

I also highlighted Safe2pee a worldwide listing of gender neutral/unisex restrooms

In My Fiction And Me, I wrote about the kind of fiction I enjoy reading and how I feel it relates to me.
I shared a few thoughts on the recent dispute between A.P. and The Drudge Report in Associated Press Defines Fair Use?
In Eat Your Cake And Have It , I wrote what I think about McCain’s endorsement of the Bush Administration’s proposal to allow faith-based organizations to violate Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of l964.
A good friend of mine just started a blog about her experiences as a transwoman in the military.

She also has some interesting posts about Christian hypocrisy in South Carolina and her old humorous misconceptions about transitioning.

Whoops. That last link is incorrect. Combatqueer’s story about transitioning is found at the below link.

I wrote about a ridiculous sexist advert: Let the battle of the sexes commence!
…and bras, and why I wear one. I went to a lot of effort with that one, downloading episodes of The Simpsons purely to screencap Marge burning her bra!
My name is Zoe Cassandra and I’m an NYU graduate student doing research on strategies for managing online conflict.
Given the nature of discussing feminism and related topics, I would imagine that many readers have experienced flaming and/or trolling either here or in other discussion forums or comment threads. And if not, you may at least have an opinion about it.
I invite all who are interested to participate in a short survey on managing flaming and trolling in these virtual environments. The aim of this research is to discover “best practices” for managing these types of conflicts such that participation in virtual communities is not disrupted.
The survey should take no longer than 10-15 minutes to complete, and you will be presented with your rights, confidentiality, and other potential concerns before participating. The results of the survey will support my final research project as part of the requirements for a Master’s degree in Management and Systems at NYU.
If you’d like to read more about this research project, please visit my homepage for an introduction:
http://homepages.nyu.edu/~zc279/
Or just take the survey directly by clicking on the link below:

Please feel free to forward this link to relevant parties whom you think might be interested in participating.
If you have any questions at all regarding the survey or my research, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Your input will be most appreciated.
Thank you for your time!
Kind regards,
Zoe Cassandra

I did a post about elections and patriotism.
As well as a post about my sister thinking I’m not actually a feminist anymore.
And some commentary about marriage.
Some conservative article insists that GSAs are all about the sex. No, really! I pick the article apart and defend my GSA. Yay…

I was tired of all the complaints by the right and the Catholic Church about the Order of Canada being “debased” by the naming of pro-choice activist Henry Morgentaler as a recipient. So I claim that Morgentaler actually enhances the reputation of the award.
I wrote a post about how the The American Family Association, is encouraging the boycotting of Mcdonalds due to the fact that the company joined the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce
Chantal Robertson a sex trade worker that was murdered. She was originally from the Niagara Region.

Almost Like A “Real” Person, wherein I talk about the sorts of things that we need to purchase for our family, like custom-build wheelchairs and drugs and shower seats, while highlighting that accessibility issues make it very very difficult for people with disabilities to get a job.
My usual weekly parsha blogging asks the question “That’s in Judaism?” … and this time the question doesn’t refer to someone who’s not overly familiar with religious expressions of Judaism wondering “I didn’t know we Jews said ‘Halleluyah’” (happened last Seder!) but with some things that relate to last week’s parsha that really do seem foreign to other aspects of Jewish thinking.
I wrote a random rant about capitalism on my LiveJournal.
Yesterday I blogged about a murdered NOW lobbyist/activist from Kansas…Didn’t know her, but friends of mine did.

Today I wondered why conservatives are so loath to just admit that Jesse Helms was a bastard. And my co-blogger did her weekly round-up of science and satire.
This is more of a general thing, but at my blog The Debate Link I’ve instituted a daily morning civil rights (and related) news roundup. It usually goes up by around 10:30 each morning. So here’s today’s roundup, but I do hope y’all will stop in and check it out each morning (and feel free to drop me stories I missed in comments).
Under my ‘fandom’ name, I’ve been working on Live Long and Marry, a fundraiser on LiveJournal for gay marriage. We’re thrilled to have Tamora Pierce and Ellen Kushner offering items, and have raised over $4K so far, just on ‘buy it now’ items.
(I comment here pretty often under my ‘real’ name. ::waves::)
Flirtation goes awry, or, Rape jokes are not hott, in which I demonstrate myself to have internalized several victim-blaming tropes.
Just how different are men and women really? and More on Helms’ civil rights record.
I want to take a moment to promote Live Long ‘n’ Marry, an absolutely amazing fundraiser that’s kicking ass and taking names for marriage equality. Inspired in part by George Takei’s gleeful wedding, LiveJournal’s queer and queer-friendly SF/F fans are auctioning off fanfiction, fanart, baked goods, BPAL imps, home-made crafts, and a hundred other wonderful things in exchange for donations to the PACs that are fighting the anti-same-sex-marriage initiative in California. The fundraiser is only half over, and it has already raised over $25,000. Pro authors like Tamora Pierce and Pamela Dean are participating as well!
Oh, I see that Lady Ganesh beat me. XD
I bitch about the media.

Recently I’ve been writing about the military build-up in the Arctic, as the big powers prepare to exploit it when global warming melts the ice. Also, a post about the banned pesticide DDT and how the chemical companies are pressuring for it to be brought back, decades after pioneering campaigning scientist Rachel Carson wrote ‘Silent Spring’.
Shortly I’ll be putting up a piece about my reactions to the brilliant documentary ‘Manufactured Landscapes’, a stunning visual portrait of the environmental damage caused by China’s capitalist industrialisation.
Recently I wrote about the intersection between free schools and other oppressions, specifically prisons. http://blog.freeschooling.org/2008/07/02/intersecting-free-schools-and-other-oppressions-prisons/
I’ve just put up another post about gender in videogames – specifically the Neverwinter Nights 2 xpac. I’m back from a break and have lots of half-finished rants built up, so I should have something new about gender, queerness, pop culture, or all 3!, up every night for the next 3-4 nights.
I wrote about sex education in British schools and my solution to rising teen pregnbancy rates ( I only just started my blog and feel somewhat lonely on it!!!)

After a few light weeks, I did a bunch of blogging this week!:
on the privacy violation of creating a fake Facebook page, naming a woman as a prostitute.
more sports and sexism, and privacy viiolation too: fan gets autographed bball in exhange for nude pics of ex-wife.
detailed critique of recent AT&T commericals and gender
finally, a mini-polemic on Entertainment and Choice
Over at hootchi cootchi this week was more silly, less sexy than usual (some days I feel like quite the smut peddler, which is fine with me). Instead of listing everything, I just encourage you to check out the best little Iron Maiden fan in the world. She’ll make your heavy metal feminist heart melt.
I’ve been reading/commenting for a long time, but I’ve never self-promoted. Let’s end this insanity here and now!
At Pop Feminist I use the symbolic currency of pop culture to talk about feminist issues. I think pop culture is a hugely useful way to blaze new paths in feminist thought (Laura Mulvey, after all, devised ‘gaze theory’ not a cultural criticism but in an essay about Hitchcock films).
Pop Feminist fills something of a void in the feminist blogsphere by NOT bitching about media. Though I cheer for the feminists who do, my mission is to bring humor and joy to the broadly defined feminist enterprise, and pose a foil to the totally justifiable, if fatiguing, negativity toward mass media. I’m the inversion of Bitch Magazine. Pop Feminist is a pro-woman pop historiography. And a dance party.

Um. Let me guest blog plz?
This week, I tackled my own musical tastes, which tend to run to male vocals. Of course, Lindabeth’s polemic on entertauinment and choice is much better than what I wrote, but here is my (more personal) take anyway.
I posted “What if we gave up the ‘top model’ paradigm rather than expanding it” arguing that the latest reality pageant shows to trade in the objectification of women, Britain’s Missing Top Model (a competition for disabled women) and She’s Got the Look (a competition for women over 35) are not the empowerment fests they make themselves out to be, but rather more peddling of the same ‘woman as object’ archetype.
