Hello Feministe readers! I’m checking in with my intro post, though my guest-blogging stint officially started on July 20th. I just finished up a whirlwind week of lobbying, traveling, event organizing, and volunteering, so I got started a bit late. Thanks to Jill for the opportunity and Cara for recommending me. I’m flattered and floored to be blogging alongside some seriously kick-ass womyn and feminists. So I have to come clean–this is my first blog post…ever. Despite being a nervous newb, I assure you that my writing will be quality, as this is the first job my B.A.’s in English Writing Arts and Women’s Studies actually qualify me for. I knew college would pay off one day…
Speaking of virginity, my main interests are sexual politics and reproductive justice. I love to write, theorize, and talk about sex, so it’s fitting that I am losing my blogging virginity with ya’ll on Feministe. I am lucky enough to get paid at Planned Parenthood of the Rochester/Syracuse Region where my job includes supporting college and grassroots organizing efforts and communicating about women’s health policy with community leaders and elected officials. I work with Cara, PPRSR super-volunteer-advocate-rockstar and Feministe blogger. She and I (technically, though I’ve never posted) also write together on the PPRSR blog, Sex. Justice. Change.
A lil’ about me: I am a vegan, Korean-American, queer, Unitarian poet and activist. My favorite movie is the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I live with my boifriend, cat, bunny, four fancy rats and, lately, a lot of black ants, in the Upper Monroe neighborhood of Rochester, NY. And it’s a little after 3am here, so that’s all for the intro post. Since I’m one of those people Jill invited who is NOT a blogger in my own right/write, I welcome you to peruse my MySpace, Facebook, and LinkedIn profiles for more info about who I am and what I do with my life. I’m so psyched about guest-blogging and, now that I’ve popped my blogging cherry, will post again soon! Good night!
