Thanks, And Farewell!

This post ends my guest-blogging stint here at Feministe. Thanks to Jill, Piny, Zuzu, Kactus, Jack, Holly, and Cara for giving me the opportunity to share my writing with a different audience than usual. And thanks to all the readers and commenters who engaged my writing in good faith. For those “fucking whiny-ass titty bab[ies]” (as Lauren so aptly put it) who petulantly refused to engage the content of my posts, and whose comments boiled down to nothing more than ““Where’s your argument; where’s your evidence; you’re not convincing; waah, waah, waah”, please read this brilliant fucking post by Ilyka at Off Our Pedestals.

Finally, just a reminder that those who would like to continue to benefit from PhysioProf’s shiny pearls of wisdom can do so at my eponymous blog PhysioProf and at DrugMonkey on the ScienceBlogs network. I love you all!

    I enjoyed your posts, man.

This web site has some incredible writers, which is why I keep coming back.

  2. Cecily says:

Might want to change that link to Lauren’s comment so that it isn’t an editing URL. We can’t see it without an admin password, I think, this way.

  3. Asal says:

Oh thank god. That was the longest two weeks….

(I’m one of the ones who enjoys the arguments and evidence bit. Shrillness gets annoying. I’m also OCD about reading all the blogs on feministe.)

    Fixed!

Asal, I’m glad you like Feministe and that you read all the posts, but that comment was a little unnecessary, yeah? I mean, if you aren’t a PhysioProf fan, that’s totally fine — but why the need to comment on his farewell post like that?

PhysioProf, you are one fabulous motherfucker, and thank you for guest-blogging!

  6. Jill says:

Oh, and any other comments on this thread complaining about PhysioProf (or any of the other guest-bloggers) are going to get deleted. I’ve been asking you all to stop making unnecessary comments like that for about a month now; I’m absolutely sick of it, and I’m not going to tolerate it on this thread. There have been other threads where we’ve hashed out what you all want in guest-bloggers, and please know that I am listening and taking your feedback and advice under consideration. But a “goodbye and thanks for having me!” post is not the appropriate place to discuss this. Ok? Ok.

But a “goodbye and thanks for having me!” post is not the appropriate place to discuss this.

Well, in their defense, it was also a “goodbye and go fuck yourselves, you fucking whiny-ass titty babies” post!

Thanks for fixing the link. And you are one fabulous motherfucker yourself, Jill!

    I’ve been asking you all to stop making unnecessary comments like that for about a month now;

If you call good-faith readers “fucking whiny-ass titty babies” you should fully expect some of them to bristle and respond. Asking commenters to adhere to much higher standards than posters is a little silly.

The second half of PhysioProf’s first paragraph is an “unnecessary comment.” If you are going to censor responses to it you should censor it as well no?

I liked most of Physio Prof’s posts (and I even defended one of them in comments) but it’s only natural for overly defensive pre-emptive strikes like this one to get negative responses. The tone is set in the original post – it’s goading.

Maybe you could explain why you’re sick of people attacking PP, but not sick of PP attacking your readers?

But a “goodbye and thanks for having me!” post is not the appropriate place to discuss this.

On the other hand a “goodbye, thanks for having me and fuck half of you” post seems like an appropriate place to discuss this.

  9. Margalis says:

Meh, I posted the above before PP’s response. Even he admits it’s goading.

  10. joe says:

PP, all you had to do was tell us you were pointing out elements of a pattern. Was that so hard?

Jill, I appreciate your efforts to keep this thread civil but PP’s right, this was a “goodbye and go fuck yourselves” post, not quite “goodbye and thanks for having me!”

  11. joe says:

    . . . or what Margalis said.

  12. Anna says:

    Oh, for crying out loud.

Is there a donation button anywhere or should I just buy something from the shop?

  13. PhysioProf says:

PP’s right, this was a “goodbye and go fuck yourselves” post, not quite “goodbye and thanks for having me!”

It was both. And there is absolutely no mystery who are the intended recipients of each message. So this idea that I’m insulting some innocent bystanders who are caught in the crossfire is a total load of shit. Nice try, though.

  14. banisteriopsis says:

    Thanks for blogging PhysioProf!

  15. ilyka says:

At this point, people are just going to poke you because they enjoy seeing you type the f-word so much, dude. I say give the people what they want.

Thanks for the link. You certainly know how to shake up a joint!

Like, say, women who work in the medical profession? Being unnecessarily disparaged with a really broad fucking brush? I guess we’re just “not innocent”, or something. Or maybe we’re completely mythical creatures, I dunno. The word of academics obviously means more than the people actually working medicine. Do the words collateral damage mean anything to you?

I’d probably have written the same goodbye by this point if I was PP.

Anyway, I haven’t been around much these past couple weeks, but thanks PP!

Anna, there’s a donate button on the “about” page.

  18. Hugo says:

Thanks, PhysioProf; I’ll be reading you at your place.

  19. Seriously says:

*delurking* Thanks PhysioProf, I enjoyed your time here, in particular the ways misogyny manifests itself in science and medicine. (my profession) I too will be continuing to read you at your place.

  20. grapeshot says:

Thanks, PhysioProf! I’ll be visiting your blog.

  21. Donna says:

I agree with Asal, it’s been the longest two weeks, except I just got back from a two week vacation visiting my in-laws….

Other than that, I’ve been catching up on my blog reading and I think you did a great job posting here, PP. I’ll be following you over to your blog too!

  22. Whatever says:

Well, I didn’t comment on any of PP’s posts, and I stopped reading any of them after I was disappointed that what I thought would be a thoughtful takedown was just proudly-defended mindless cursing–so do those till-now privately-held thoughts keep me from being an “innocent bystander” who feels insulted by this post? Since I feel insulted, does that mean I’m just another fucking whiny-ass titty baby?

I can’t really say for sure. I do believe, however, even if I had never heard of PP before, I’m pretty sure I’d feel insulted at regular readers of a feminist blog being called “whiny titty babies.” Because I did read some of PP’s earlier posts, it bothers me even more, since I know that some commenters explicitly said they had a problem with PP’s “tone” because of how such anger from a man comes across to them as women in a feminist space. That’s a real problem, and should not be dismissed with “Oh, I know this pattern where you just have issues with my *toooone*.” And going on to call feminists who make such complaints–and complaints that might result from escalating frustration to engage with them–“fucking whiny-ass titty bab[ies]” fits into its own disturbing pattern.

I’m pretty disappointed how the moderators here, from what I saw, didn’t take to heart complaints good-faith readers had with the gender-based and ability-based insults in PP’s posts.

And, sure, feel free to delete this, because this is PP’s farewell post–but the things I’m talking about are right here in this post. I’m responding to it. In good faith.

  23. Dana says:

Ka kite, thanks for visiting. :)

I must say, the sanctimonious cries of offence that occurred at some point in the comments to all of your posts did make it hard reading unfortunately. Not your problem; might pop over and look at your place – though I do not need another blog to read! lol

  24. mikeb302000 says:

Dear PP, The only thing I’ve enjoyed more than your wit and sarcasm is the controversial comments you elicited. I couldn’t believe how heated it got from the very beginning of your guest-blogging, how vicious your detractors were. Yet, I never had any doubts that you could defend yourself.

Thanks and see you on your site.
