LIMBAUGH: He’s — it’s — to me, it is striking how unqualified Obama is and how this whole thing came about with, within the Democrat Party. I think it really goes back to the fact that nobody had the guts to stand up and say no to a black guy. They just — they were — liberal policies are always going to end up strangling liberals, too.
And I think, I think this is a classic illustration here where affirmative action has reared its ugly head against them. It’s the reverse of it. They’ve, they’ve ended up nominating and placing at the top of their ticket somebody who’s not qualified, who has not earned it.
LIMBAUGH: Obama’s patriotism is not being attacked in an ad. McCain’s just out there saying he’s putting his own personal political ambition ahead of the country’s. It’s — you know, it’s just — it’s just we can’t hit the girl. I don’t care how far feminism’s saying, you can’t hit the girl, and you can’t — you can’t criticize the little black man-child. You just can’t do it, ’cause it’s just not right. It’s not fair. He’s such a victim.
Love,
Cara

“Little black man-child”? I think the word you’re looking for, Rush, is “pickaninny”. It’s ok, Rush, we all know you’re thinking it. It won’t make us think you’re any more racist than we already do.
But really, I’m surprised it took thins long for something this awful to come out of the conservative crowd. So far most of the egregious racist shit has come from Democrats.
Every time I read something Rush Limbaugh has said, I always find myself wondering what happened to make him such a horrible, horrible person. How exactly does one become such a self-righteous, sexist, racist, homophibic, ass hole and hypocrite? What a pathetic excuse for a human being.
Buh, I agree with Cara. Rush Limbaugh can suck my imaginary feminist cock.
Uh, did he miss the part where tons and tons of people have criticized Obama and called him inexperienced and unqualified? He’s not just racist, he’s completely out of touch with reality.
I’m beginning to wonder if ClearChannel and our other media/telecommunications overlords would permit live human sacrifices for the enjoyment of others because hey, it draws ratings.
What a f’in loser Rush is. UGH!
I’ve been trying to get people to refer to him as “Drug Limbaugh.”
Manda: I suspect positive feedback. The more he channels the id of White Southern Manhood, the more people tell him how great he is. Pretty soon, he morphs into more of a monster than even he thought he was on the inside. Personally, I suspect that he has a really weak sense of self and feels very vulnerable to social pressure.
I have actually spent more time thinking about Limbaugh since coming across this at media matters. It seems to me that when leftist call out the extremes like him we are preaching to the choir. I doubt you would find a single feministe reader who would be in support of a single thing that a windbag Limbaugh has to say. Those that are fans of his have drunk so much kool aid by this point I believe that they are beyond hope, furthermore they aren’t reading sites like feministe, feministing, or shakesville etc. I guess what I am asking is since we already know that he is an ass wipe aren’t we spending our precious energy in a group hate on fest for nothing? Would our time not be better spent raising awareness about issues that don’t get much coverage?
Renee: that’s a constant debate, isn’t it? I purposely didn’t write a diatribe on this for that reason — Limbaugh is not worth my time. But I also feel like it’s worth 1. knowing what the asshole is saying because he does influence discourse and 2. calling out media racism on a feminist site as media sexism was so frequently called out. I also think it’s a big problem that the mainstream doesn’t seem to know what Limbaugh and his supporters are saying, because I think that most decent people would really be turned off by this kind of blatant racism, wonder why it’s on the air, and why Republicans salivate for it so much.
I also think that having a little rant every now and then is a good thing and I think that if I didn’t, and commenters didn’t, things would just get far too depressing in blogland. (I can’t tell you the number of comments I get over at the curvature saying “I hate reading your blog, not because of you!, but because it’s so damn depressing.)
But I do think it’s a conversation worth having. How do we decide which assholes to complain about and which assholes to ignore? As a rule of thumb, if someone is not particularly influential or well-known or standing on a big platform, I let it go. But after that . . . it’s a gut feeling sort of thing, and honestly I went back and forth a few times about whether or not to put something up about this — and compromised by putting up a link but not a real post.
You make a good point, Renee, and I agree that there are many important issues that don’t get nearly enough coverage. However, IMHO, the reason that people (if we can call them people) like Limbaugh have gotten so powerful is because progressives chose to ignore their idiocy for so long. In a roundabout way, that feeds the koolaid-drinkers beliefs that their white and mostly maleness is being ignored by the “liberal elite.”
I really have no idea how to fix that. It’s kind of a no win situation. I mean, it’s really, really, REALLY hard to feel sorry for a group that’s pissed that they only have like 90% of the power instead of 99% they imagine that they deserve. But the ugliness takes on a life of its own, and that’s a problem we all have to live with when these same people commit hate crimes and make life generally unsafe for those of us who seem like a threat to them.
Consider this… A lot of the koolaid drinkers probably wouldn’t fall for this bullshit if we lived in a society where critical thinking had been emphasized in their K-12 schooling, even in their community. This kind of stuff falls apart under ANY sort of close examination, you know? But unless we respond to these people and fight them every step of the way, we lose clout when it comes to things like education.
I think I explained my thoughts very badly. I apologize, I’m sick and I sprained my ankle last week. Plus, I don’t think I’ve ever hashed this out with anyone.
Though I agree with you that the teaching of critical thinking skills is almost nonexistent in US K-12 schooling, never underestimate the great human power to rationalize and deceive oneself.
Moreover, even if critical thinking was taught in schools…..it does not necessarily mean every student will fully learn the tools necessary for it, much less accept it wholeheartedly. Even at higher-ed institutions, most students IME tend to do whatever they can to avoid anything resembling “critical thinking”. Just look at our esteemed President….
As for “Drug Limbaugh”(Good one!), my cynical feeling is that he is more of an opportunist whose ideological rantings are made as crass and offensive as possible to tap into his targeted audiences’ undercurrent of hatred for all things different from what he and his audience considers the “American mainstream”.
It was probably one of the few things he had going for him after flunking every college class in 2 semesters and a summer….including a class in Modern Ballroom Dancing.
HTH did he manage that??!!!! Even my clumsy 17 year old high school self managed to pass despite several incidents of accidentally stepping on my dancing partners’ toes and even almost dipping a few dancing partners into a wall due to such clumsiness.
Wait… who now? Limbaugh is still around? My gods, he’s as relevant as… whosit, Geraldo. I know I should be outraged, but I just don’t care. What a silly little man.
@Cara after reading this story I think I might reassess my original position.
This makes me think of the passage in one of the Hitchhiker books (can’t recall which one) where the aliens hide their spaceship by parking it in the middle of a cricket field during a game. The idea being that if people want to see or not see something, they will convince themselves of whatever it is they want to believe, barring all factual evidence. Conservatives in a nutshell, I’d say.
The comments here remind me of something.
I recently got a library card in the city I live oin now, and saw Ann Coulter’s book, “The Church of Liberalism,” and decided I’d check if out to see what te crap she was really all about. After the first two pages, I wanted to go rant about the evil, non-sensical, absolutely moronic things she had to say… Until I remembered that it’s almost annoying to be annoyed with Ann Coulter because she’s so fucking obviously retarded that there’s no reason to even bring her up. Her lunacy is simply boring now.
I am continually amazed that we don’t read articles with headlines like this:
Radio Host Limbaugh found in alley after well deserved ass kicking.
In the Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, it was a “Somebody Else’s Problem Field”. It was like an invisibility field, but instead of making things invisible, you’re eyes just slipped off of it as not relevant to you’re life.
What made it so funny was how true it was. How many times do we just not see, or care about something that is “Not our problem”?
I like to call him “Lush Rimjob”, myself. But I’m not sure it’s fair to demean the man based on his radio spiels; they surely lost something in translation from the original German.
Rush has to get one of his buddy’s to find some Viagra for him before he can fuck himself.
I’d go with “Lord Haw-Haw”.

Wow, cara, what a mouth, and what intolerance for a fine radio host. i happened across this site, and was curious what the feminist movement was doing these days. Obviously just brainwashing people and feeling degraded and ticked off about nothing important. Same old same old. May God help you, and I wish you well.
Aw, Jdog is worried about my soul because I think that racism is a bad thing. Isn’t that cute? Run along now, little conservative, I’m sure somewhere there’s a puppy that needs kicking.
“It seems to me that when leftist call out the extremes like him we are preaching to the choir.”
Consider then that if you took Limbaugh’s name off those quotes, many people including liberals would not find those statements racist, or boderline at worst.
Keep in the back of your mind, someone new comes to this site every day. Someone new discovers Limbaugh every day, and Limbaugh can make a lot of sense to someone who has little to no exposure to politics at this level. You can only hope that you get to that new person before the Freepers do.
