Lisa Harney, who is quickly becoming one of my favorite bloggers, has written an excellent post explaining what transphobia is. For those who are unsure of what is/is not transphobic, and what is meant by “cissexual privilege,” this is a must-read. For those who feel they’ve got a pretty good grasp of it, I recommend heading over anyway because it’s an excellent piece of writing.

I’m sad no one has commented here thus far.
I find Lisa’s eloquence very inspiring–I usually am reduced to “transphobia bad. cissexual privilege bad. own it.”
I kind of wish you didn’t use quote marks around cissexual privilege, though.
I think most people were commenting on the linked post
I agree with Polerin on this one — I headed over to Lisa’s post and checked, and it seemed to be the case. This makes me happy, btw — it’s much better to leave comments for the woman who wrote the post, rather than the woman who wrote three sentences telling you to read it :)
And I apologize for any confusion, but I wasn’t using quotes around cissexual privilege as scare quotes — I was using them in context as mere punctuation to point out what particularly was being defined. In the same way that in another post I wrote something along the lines of: “abortion” is defined as “quote.” Or, might write: but how do we define “feminism”? I do see now how it could have been taken the other way, but it certainly wasn’t my intention.
I read the post with rapt interest. Much of the problem has to do wit the fact that those who perpetrate all the cruelty against us know nothing about who we are and what we go through. Unfrtunately many cissexual people get their attitudes about trans people from society pitting one group of people against the other.
This is a great article and many people should read it.

Lisa is Teh Awesome, truly. I’m pleased to see her getting more and more widely linked.
Thanks for the kind words, all. :)
