I have a post on my blog about the campaign (surprise, surprise ) and how the republican party are once again doing the usual, stop worrying about issues and trust us to take care of you as we see fit bullshit.

What the ESC has been up to:
Joe Biden: Honorary Vagina American? (Because we think Biden deserves more credit for his record on women’s issues than Palin does for being a woman.)
John McCain Wears Lipstick
Jordin Sparks Thinks You’re A Slut (She later issued a non-apology for her remarks, clarifying that if you don’t wear a purity ring you’re not “necessarily” a slut. Thanks, Jordin.)
A Note From The Community
Ana Mendieta (Part of an ongoing guest blog series written by a friend of ours on women in the art world. It’s awesome when you can learn from your own blog.)
Kids Are Off Limits: Political Hypocrisy?
Our heartbeats are a sword at their throats – a post I did connecting a wonderful piece of writing about the war the Christian homophobes say we’re fighting with them, with Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson claiming that they think the “the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians” were responsible for causing 9/11.
Which connects in my mind with a blogpost I wrote back in August but I don’t think I Shamelessly Selfpromoted then: about the contrast between the words of Jesus in the gospels and what Henry Orombi, Archbishop of Uganda, claims is the most important aspect of Christianity, interleaved with descriptions of what was done to a lesbian couple in Uganda and Orombi’s response to it. May be triggering. You cannot invite someone halfway in.
Political commentary. 800? 2008? Same deal.
Wedding Sip Blitz Twenty authors (myself among them) have written same-sex marriage short stories, and all the royalties go to Lambda Legal and Marriage Equality. The publisher is matching the royalties 100%. For $1.29 per story, how can you go wrong?
Same publisher is doing other promotions, including a scavenger hunt for a Kindle.
I’m mostly anti-Palinista this week. You know, how she didn’t ask for the earmarks she requested, how she’s much more fiscally responsible than those tax & spend liberals and how she’s all gung-ho for the US to consider going to war to defend those completely innocent Georgians against the big bad Russians.
I’m dismayed by all the expectations for the American presidential election debates.
I am also dismayed by the upcoming Canadian federal election. (You did know there was one happening in Canada too, yes?)
But there’s a bright spot in all this: our favourite neighbourhood Breslev nut Lazer Brody has some hilarious suggestions for infertility, including but not limited to eating figs, garlic, and warm eggs. And praying, naturally. And buying his books and CDs. It makes me really upset that people in the position to deliver useful help often use this power to spew forth asinine and possibly even harmful “advice”.
I wrote a post analysing the imagery in a violently misogynistic web game called Cunt (some of the links are NSFW). This is a game in which the player takes on the role of a penis and tries to destroy a vagina. I am not shitting you.
I question if Sarah Palin deserves those photoshopped Rosie the Riveter posters and also point out that back in April, John McCain linked the 35W bridge collapse to earmarks, including Palin’s Bridge to Nowhere but didn’t happen to mention that when he was in St. Paul this month for the RNC. I also found this beautiful poem about the RNC, written by a friend of mine.
I’ve got a post about “scientific” claims that the vaginal orgasm is the “best” orgasm and that women who don’t have them need therapy.
Last week, I described the Palins and the new traditional family.
And my take on Palin’s interview with Charles Gibson.

Protecting Patients’ Rights, a post regarding the proposed HHS regulations and how employers could accommodate religious beliefs without hurting patients.
A message from Karl Rove, who says McCain has been lying in his campaign ads. When Karl Rove says it, you know it’s bad!
I posted a list of words MTV censored during Li’l Wayne’s VMA performance…”menstrual” got bleeped but all instances of “bitch” cruised right on through!
Just up: a post about how male privilege makes it hard for people I know/have come into contact with to understand my complaints as a feminist.
Blogged about the National Week of Action for affordable birth control, and babbled about my favorite form.
And, I am looking for suggestions for my bored first grade level reader.
Lots of other stuff, but those are the highlights.
Getting tired of the right implying that liberals are being sexist towards Palin, when in reality, the Republicans are the ones treating her differently.
Our new blog, Pink Scare, launched Monday.
Highlights: how classic Angela Davis relates to international studies on gender and personality, and a close look at the movement towards socialism (MAS) in Bolivia.

http://pink-scare.blogspot.com/2008/09/thoughts-on-bolivia-and-socialism-for.html
A rambling, whiny post about how pregnancy has affected my body image and self-perception. Also a recipe for chicken parmesan, complete with pictures and commentary.
I just wrote a piece on Gwen Stefani’s new fragrance and her continued appropriation of the Harajuku subculture
And the link is: http://mzbitca.wordpress.com/2008/09/14/appropriation-meets-capitalism/
CNN’s commentariat victim blame with the best of them. Because obviously when a woman’s husband cracks her in the face with a frying pan, it’s because she drove him to it and he snapped.
I also have to plug Get Fuzzy for its fabulous series of Michael Palin/Monty Python jokes.
What does the post patriarchy look like?
In Victoria (Australia), there is a historic bill going through parliament to decriminalise abortion. Here, in the absence of a Roe vs Wade, we have a thing called the Menhennit ruling, a legal precedent that allows abortion to proceed if there is a threat to the health, physical or mental, of the mother (as well as severe birth defects and/or incurable illness in the foetus).
The bill aims to simply take abortion out of the Crimes Act and regularise what is actually current practice. The model is for choice for the mother up to 24 weeks, after that the consent of two doctors is needed.
I’ve commented several times on this in the last few weeks. Oh, and Gianna Jessen? Willya come and take her back please!
Labor can’t be trusted with our reproductive rights
Religious hijacking of abortion debate in Victoria (yes, totally expected)
Decriminalisation of abortion in Victoria-continued
Are these the people you want in control of your body?
Sorry for the bunch of links, but they’re all on the one topic.
my pussy is not for your judgement.
because i simply couldn’t let that bobby hemmitt foolishness stand simply as the comical-for-the-wrong-reasons ramblings of an aging quote-unquote revolutionary black man.
I have two that may be worth checking out:
HIV testing and pregnancy, and right of refusal (and why a physician/professor at my med school pissed me off about this subject)
and a post about Palin’s judgment, obstetrically, which has gotten some attention from a former midwifery classmate of mine among other responders.
I write about gender crimes at the Khmer Rouge Tribunal and ghosts in my house
I wasn’t going to say anything about the 9/11 anniversary but then a freaky dream made me think about how the legacy of 9/11 (and certain other atrocities) enters into my parenting.
That’s buried in a whole lot of sputtering about Palin and the silly season, which seems to be the bad dream that just won’t end.
Back in August I talked about Pandora Radio’s imminent closing and how insanely high fees labels are charging for online radio stations to play their artists is another attempt at blunting the natural evolution of the music industry.
More recently I discussed the excerpt Ben Goldacre posted from his new book Bad Science and actually posted another Photo Essay Episode. It involves a turtle and a watermelon.
I kinda got back in the saddle the other day.
I’ve done a bunch of coverage of the RNC protests, arrests, and subsequent terrifying police-state abuses, especially toward street medics, at my place.
And then I declared war.
I haven’t written a great deal recently, because I’ve been suffering from the mental-health effects of Real Life, and engaging with a lot of debate online has seemed beyond me lately, alas.
Nevertheless, I have a couple of things to share:
My first video blog talkie (as opposed to “sing-ie” or “music-ie”), in which I burble about my basil plant, and tell a story about using origami to entertain a little girl.
Also, although it’s a couple of weeks old now, I want to point everyone to the artwork of Steve Bell at the USA party conventions. I was taken with his description of John McCain resembling a chipmunk!
Domestic and Laboratory Goddess Isis the Scientist and PhysioProf have an ongoing Recipe War, which includes weekly recipe battles, wherein Isis and PhysioProf post their recipes and photos and generally slag the shit out of each other. Those Feministe readers who think PhysioProf sucks massive donkey balls will be pleased to know that, so far, Isis the Scientist has won the first two battles, and is much more severely (and successfully) slagging the shit out of PhysioProf than PhysioProf is her!! So check this shit out!!
An anti-gun post inspired by my recent visit to Las Vegas.

YAY! They’re back!
Well, if you haven’t figured it out already, Muslimah Media Watch has moved to its new, fancy-pancy address at muslimahmediawatch.org. Check it!
I’m currently hosting the <a href=”http://feministblogproject.wordpress.com/2008/09/09/the-64th-carnival-of-feminists/”64th Carnival of Feminists”!
I also wrote about blogging and activism and wrote a brief entry about Sarah Palin.
Oops, sorry for the formatting mistake there.
64th Carnival of Feminists.
Come on over and check out my blog. It used to be mostly about cancer but then came Sarah and suddenly a national cancer became much more important than a personal one.

Kate, wow, very well said!
About racism, an apology to the trans community, and my father, not necessarily in that order
and Carol Fowler, SC Democratic Party Chair, forced to apologize for anti-Palin abortion comment.
I wrote some time ago about touch, touch-shyness, and personal space. Comments make some great points about how it relates to abuse.
I’m also setting up a co-operative blog with a few feminist friends at http://city-of-ladies.blogspot.com – watch this space for further developments.

(sorry about that, mods – I think my past few tries went into spam)
What!?! I missed Shameless Self Promotion?!? Damn it!
Well, I’ll self promote anyway, shame or no: I asked if all women are pro-woman (it mainly deals with Palin) and an awesome guest blogger, Kandee, wrote about feminist parenting for boys. My co-blogger Maggie discussed how Americans like their lesbians, and Sally shared her thoughts on weddings.
Here’s a recent selection from The Hand Mirror:
The ex-expat shares her concern at a late period and two pro-lifers try to hijack the resulting thread.
Anjum Rahman writes about the intolerance she faces as a muslim woman living in NZ.
I consider the very different world my son may grow up in.
And Anna addresses some of the problems with socialism from a feminist perspective in parts 1 and 2 of Feminism: just socialism for girls?
Thanks for the opportunity to share :-)
Also, I haven’t noticed anything on the American feminist blogs about the Jessica Alba Declare Yourself billboard? We’ve written about it here (short post) and here (longer post). Apologies if this has been done to death on the US fem blogs already and I missed it.
