RIP Tutu Dunham

Obama’s grandmother passed away today. It’s a damn shame she didn’t live to see her grandson be elected president of the United States* — but I have a feeling her confidence in him was strong enough that she didn’t need to be here on election day. I’m also one of those secret liberal God-believers you keep reading about, so I like to think that Barack will have an angel on his shoulder tomorrow.

I’m glad he left the campaign trail to see her one last time. Condolences to her family.

Oh god. That is so damn sad. I’m glad that he got to see her again, too.

She missed it by *one* day! Oh that is so heartbreaking.

i think/hope this just ensures his win. he’s got an angel in heaven who can handle things on that end tomorrow.

Oh no. That’s so, so sad. How hard must it be for the family to be dealing with that right now, in the midst of everything, as if the death of a loved one is not hard enough. Damn.

This is probably the saddest thing I have heard all year. I’m crestfallen…I wish she could have made it for at least one more day!

I hope she was given the chance to vote early.

Don’t worry, I’m one of those liberals who believes in God, too. And I’m sending up a prayer that God brings Sen. Obama and his family peace and strength during this difficult time. (Oh, and victory tomorrow would be cool, too.)

This makes me so damn sad. Thanks for the laugh, Victoria. ;)
I’m going to be praying, too, for Obama’s family and his future presidency, God willing!

It’s like something out of Jung Central. The hero, just before he completes his journey, loses his beloved mentor; what an extraordinary story, what an extraordinary man, what an extraordinary day.

But we need to GOTV. Nothing is decided yet.

@victoria
I heard on the news that she used an absentee ballot (something about Hawaii voting rules) and cast her vote for her grandson on October 21st. Obviously that doesn’t take away from the sadness of her passing, but I hope that Barack can take solace in her final gesture of support to the man she helped raise. I wish I could thank her for doing such a damn good job.
