I have a listing of prop 8 rallies and demonstrations throughout California and the country
http://queersunited.blogspot.com/2008/11/listing-of-prop-8-protests-and-rallies.html
Oh, I would also like to shamelessly promote the petition to re-open prop 8 (which eliminated the right for gay/lesbian couples to marry.
http://queersunited.blogspot.com/2008/11/re-open-proposition-8-petition.html
Also please help in the movement to stop the tax exemption for the mormon church who donated 20+ million to prop 8 http://queersunited.blogspot.com/2008/11/no-tax-exemption-for-political-churches.html

Thinking about the FCC and censorship, the versatility of the word fuck, and obscenity on broadcast television.
I’ve written a rendition of an old tune I like to call “Rahm the Knife” at Problem Chylde.
Bastard Logic’s latest on people’s armchair cabinet appointments.
Anthony McCarthy on Civil Unions at Echidne of the Snakes.
I work part time as a product demonstrator in a Big Box Warehouse Store. I am one of the legion of people not listed in the unemployment stats.
I work when they need me with out benefits. Part of this is because of out sourcing and part of it is because of ageism.
I wrote “Part Time Hell” last night http://womanrebel.blogspot.com/2008/11/part-time-hell.html
Some corny folksy Americana: The Ballad of Barack Obama.
I responed to a ridiculous Guardian article about gender and “big ideas,” and then also ranted about a California professor who would rather lose his salary than undergo sexual harassment training.
I’ve been all-Obama, all week. My favorite post combines LOTR and Barack O’s Inauguration.
Also, just for fun, promoting some friends’ new website about our new WH chief of staff. http://www.rahmfacts.com :)
Breaking down the myth that Barack Obama proves the civil rights revolution has been won.
Daring to have hope – do we have the potential to be the next “Greatest Generation”?
I wrote a short entry about a supposed incidence of racism at a local KFC.

Now that Obama has won and I don’t have to fear pogroms, I turn my attention to intra-denominational fighting between Catholic priests who are offended not all Catholics are of the Roman variety, react to the reaction to the passage of Prop h8, and note some inconsistencies when Orthodox Jewry apply the ancient ideals of halacha and turn modern medicine into battery.
One more which is more important than my wonky song renditions: the Netherlands drafting a bill to force “unfit” mothers to take contraception, under threat of taking their babies from them after they’re born.
Our Descent into Madness shares Five Links That Are Actually Important (and reminded me to link the Netherlands one).
Open letter to white activists — on racism after Prop 8
I forgot…stop by for this weeks secret shame where we are discussing fashion mistakes we should have known wore wrong. Confess it is good for a laugh.
“Oregon Senate News and Wacko Candidates Who Lost” (http://evie-lu.blogspot.com/2008/11/oregon-senate-news-and-wacko-candidates.html) — a post from the night the Oregon senate race was called in favor of Jeff Merkley, along with bizarre info from the websites of the lesser-known candidates who lost
I wrote a couple of pieces about Obama’s win – on Monday, letting my cynicism speak, I wrote We won’t win in America, about how even if Barack won, his chances of bringing real change were still pretty slim. On Wednesday, after he actually won it, and buzzing with the euphoria that I saw online and on the television, and with the memory of seeing that speech live, I wrote the antidote to that post, An historic day.
I also was inspired to piece together my personal timeline – the key news events and not so newsworthy events that I remember as landmarks in my lifetime.
In other news, I took on an anti-porn analogy that I felt made not much sense at all.
A quick response on privileged responses to Obama’s election over at my blog.
I have a post up about intolerance used to push a supposed message of tolerance in Jerusalem.
I have also, like everyone else, posted about Prop 8, specifically LAPD brutality towards no-on-8 protesters.
After several voting/Election Day posts, I reflected the day after on the Latino vote and 5 realizations I had on Election Day.
Hey, did anyone else notice a huge drop in traffic after the election? We got about a fifth of our normal traffic on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday… a three-day hangover from Tuesday night parties perhaps? Anyway, we’re still around and writing about:
1. Teen lesbians on ABC’s Family Channel!
2. Another organization with a good purpose goes PETA, trying to promote a cause with sexy ladies. This time a Tila Tequila strip-tease for high schoolers is used to discuss the atrocities in Myanmar.
3. Maggie writes about moms’ fears about posting cute kid photos – do you all post personal and family photos or no?
4. One family that is posting cute kid picts is the Obama family – we posted our favorites.
I don’t actually like prostitution very much but since it sits at a huge intersection of ideas related to gender, projection, objectification, and alienation I sure wind up writing a lot about it.
This week I’ve written three posts that all sort of go together. The first two, about who benefits from keeping prostitution illegal, were inspired by something Cara wrote here.
- A Most Ingenious Paradox: Who Benefits When Prostitution is Illegal?
- Sharing Risks and Responsibilities
- Prostitution and Shared Objectifiction
I posted video of a song that seemed to be a good fit with Tuesday’s events:
http://varkentine.blogspot.com/2008/11/can-you-dig-it.html
And also got some last licks in on Sarah Palin:
http://varkentine.blogspot.com/2008/11/would-you-lose-respect-for-me-if-i-said.html
I totally got quoted by an AP reporter on my response to Obama winning the election, and posted my actual answers here.
“Shame On You, New York Times”? Not so much – why it’s wasn’t racist for the NYT to emphasize Obama’s race in their Monday morning headline.
Yeah, Ben – wanting to watch a woman “bled to death” is TOTALLY feminist.
I go absolutely apeshit about reports of racist slurs being thrown around at a prop 8 protest in my post, YES I WILL SPEAK TO YOU LIKE I AM YOUR FUCKING MOTHER (http://loreleiblack.wordpress.com/2008/11/09/yes-i-will-speak-to-you-like-i-am-your-fucking-mother/)
Yeah Ben, I would lose respect for you. Stupid title for something that’s just a link to a HuffPo post about Palin not being the brightest bulb in the chandelier knowing Africa is a continent.
A non alliance
On why talking about black outreach on Prop 8 is as nonsensical as talking about Mormon outreach. Its somewhat cynical, but also realistic.
When Politics Gets Personal – Some things that have bothered me about the issues on gay marriage and abortion. Prop 8 just made me think about it a lot.
Wrote An Open Letter to a Racist Friend after the election. Am currently drafting a follow-up.
Aah! Late as usual, I’m college visiting today!
The first page of the novel I’m writing, featuring a crazy Victorian feminist quote.
Election night reflection
I’m an overambitious bitch and now want 300 votes by Saturday. Please get to my blog to see the poll about the feminist blogosphere: http://www.myecdysis.blogspot.com
Thanks mujers!
I was actually out of town so there’s not too much. One post on prepping for election returns, http://aftercancernowwhat.wordpress.com/2008/11/04/voting-updates/
and the ever brilliant political analysis of my seven year old http://aftercancernowwhat.wordpress.com/2008/11/04/but-hes-definitely-going-to-beat-bob-barr/
My thoughts on the election, especially what it means for the future. (Sorry if I mess up the link, I’m not too great with html)
I wrote stuff!
The Framers and That’s not what the article said! about blaming all black people for the passage of Proposition 8.
Enjoy!
A few interesting things this week!
An astrological look at the elections.
A plea with people to stop blaming blacks for Prop 8 passing.
Iraq Veterans Against the War’s open letter to President-Elect Obama.
And a request to pagans out there to work some magic together towards protecting the life of our new President. I doubt I need to remind everyone of our countries assassination history.
I wrote about why I think Prop 8 passed. It is an angle I haven’t seen discussed and has nothing to do with race.
One last thing – Postsecret has another gem on their hands. I wrote my reactions about blaming the “Feminist Movement.”
http://myecdysis.blogspot.com/2008/11/blaming-feminist-movement.html
Ilyka’s “The Last I’ll Write on Conservatives” is pretty damned poignant. Very short excerpt:
Go read it at Off Our Pedestals.
A few reviews that you shouldn’t miss out on this week:
Blood Dazzler: In a world full of tragedy, it is easy to feel removed from it, to see it as a distant echo. Patricia Smith’s collection of poems, Blood Dazzler, breaks through this apathy to bring the full weight of Hurricane Katrina’s impact front and center.
Refiguring the Ordinary : It’s easy to understand the power of your own authenticity when we’ve all long been told that we—as feminists, women, oppressed minorities—have a right to our own voices and stories, that we are the ones who can best speak our truth to power. But what if authenticity itself is merely existentialism gone wrong, subjective judgments that still have little bearing on reality? How are we to be the judges of our own pure interpretations?
Surprised by God: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Religion: Reading this, you might not be able to guess that the larger framework in which Ruttenberg is speaking is about how she learned to feel comfortable with visibly and publicly practicing her religion. But you don’t have to be religious to enjoy Ruttenberg’s thoughts and words. Her discussions about feminism, community, spirituality, identity, and family are thoughts that can inspire and attract anyone.
Riot gave a big old sincere thank you to George Bush. And finds she quite likes talking in third person.
http://ironjawedangst.wordpress.com/2008/11/04/congatulations/
Then Riot’s Presidential Music. Little late, she knows.
http://ironjawedangst.wordpress.com/2008/11/04/riot-grrls-presidental-melody/
And last but not least, a quick review of Riot’s favorite Manga!
http://ironjawedangst.wordpress.com/2008/11/10/riot-is-readying-herself-for-the-week/
I posted about the New England Patriots’ dismissal of the youngest NFL cheerleader in history, and how cheerleaders are held to a much higher (and different) standard than the players. I was livid at what On Blast at Last did to this young woman’s career.
Sudy, I saw that on Post Secret too and I considered posting about it. Glad you did!
Also, Ben, I don’t think wishing violent death upon anyone is very feminist. Clearly, Sarah Palin was not the most qualified person for the job but that does not excuse death threats. At least not in my opinion.
Also, I got off of my lazy ass and made a detailed post about the complex positions of women in country music.
http://afeministresponsetopopculture.blogspot.com/2008/11/feminism-in-country-music.html
Feelings of ambiguity and tension in the wake of the election–elation vying with sorrow over prop 8 & others, the joy of marching spontaneously with people mixed with a certain distance from America, my natural and deep-seated cynicism struggling with the desire for hope–here: http://isabelthespy.tumblr.com/post/58323566/yes-we-something
A few thoughts on the amazing Obama victory
and a pure spleen vent about the way women are routinely dismissed from humanity.
Atlas sulked: The Objectivists are going to harness the tiny John Galt that lives inside each of them, they’re gunna rise up, and, and, and- they’re going to grow vegetables!
And raise sheep!
And like, not do very much!
I am cowering here, I tells ya, cowering.
My obligatory, though heartfelt, reaction to election night ;)
The Morning After.
Odds and ends: religious and sexual liberty, prostitution, casual sex.
This was a bit longer than a week ago, but I want input on this, and I haven’t submitted it for SSPS, so.
On the last two episodes of Dr Who, Season 4. I read around a few feminist blogs people who had an issue, and I am not seeing it, and thusly would like feedback. (Contains spoilers.)
a little late, but…
My two reactions to Election Night:
one elated
and one more somber
Political animals: http://www.vegansoapbox.com/political-animals-of-2008/
The Obama puppy will be vegan? http://www.vegansoapbox.com/if-the-obamas-dont-go-vegan-maybe-their-puppy-will/
An analogy about my frustration with trying to get my plumbing sorted.
Hmmm…yesterday’s submission doesn’t seem to have shown up. Trying again.
Proposition 8 haiku, courtesy of dumb fundies:
http://fundamentallyflawed.wordpress.com/2008/11/10/special-edition-more-fundy-haiku/
On my blog: In my comments about a recent episodes of To the Contrary with Bonnie Erbe I express my opinion on Michele’s Obama’s statement of “mom-in-chief” and the idea that maternity should be considered a pre-existing condition that can not be discriminated against preventing the health insurance industry to charge more for women that men.
http://www.inthestudio.typepad.com
I’ve written about the unsealing of an arrest warrant in the case of an officer busted for sexual assault.
This is my first “love” letter.
It’s par for the course and I think I know who this gentleman is. What’s interesting is that the references don’t make any sense which tells me which two other individuals are involved, they being two gentlemen who have slandered me all over the neighborhood where I lived and they policed for several years.
What’s odd (or not) is that do they think writing this crap does their “friend” any good in his criminal defense. I mean, birds of a feather….
