I know I haven’t posted on my new kitties in a while, but that’s just because I didn’t want to make Lauren jealous with all their unbearable cute-ness. In fact, a few weeks ago she threatened me with a kittie-off. I drew the trump card:
Let the “aaaawwww!”s begin. And it’s a trick they both can do:
But Percival and Leopold are doing quite well. They even got their first bath a few weeks ago, which they were not pleased with:
They’re sort of shockingly friendly and loving, to the point of annoyance. When I wake up, they’re both sitting outside my door, waiting. They follow me around the house whenever I’m home. Whenever I sit down, one is on my lap (usually Percy, the attention-whore) and one is laying next to me (usually Leo, the neglected younger child) until the inevitable kittie wrestling-match begins. I’ve never been a cat person, but I love them even though Leo is out of his mind and Percy has a farting problem.
(Right here, Leo is going, “Oh my GOD, what did you EAT?!”)
So I may have officially turned into a cat lady, but that’s cool.
More kitteh pictures here.

Are they talkers?
Yes. Very loud ones. Especially when there’s food involved.
You’re going down.
Yay! Kittehs!

Oo! Folded kitty cuteness!
Is that a Harry Potter scarf I see in the closet? The kittehs are adorable!
I’ve concluded that “crazy cat lady” doesn’t refer to the crazy lady with the cats, it refers to the lady with the crazy cats – it sure does in my case x_x My cat drinks water from the floor of shower… and talks a lot, and occasionally goes berserk and tears a cardboard box apart – not to mention my jigsaw puzzle – much to my dismay.
But kittehs are cute, so they can somehow always weasel forgiveness out of my spineless self :P
The kittehs are too adorable for words. I have to restrain myself from running off to my local SPCA to pick up a couple of kittehs for myself. :-)
Ah! See, this is why it’s good that my dorm has MAD!security and I could never sneak in a dorm kitten. >< I can has WANT! I can’t wait to go home over break and see my guys.
In closet: “I shall seek out and find teh whitest of your white things, and make it my favoritest napping place.”
Jill: FYI – I adopted a kitten from a shelter and he also had a serious farting problem. He was only 2# but he could clear a room quickly! I mentioned it to the vet and she said he probably had some intestinal bug (can’t remember what it is now) and gave me some antibiotics. That helped tremendously! You may want to mention Percival’s aroma to your vet.
Willy still farts a lot but now it’s because we can’t keep him out of the dog’s food.
Ahahahahahahaha. SO CUTE! I love the “you farted!!!” picture. And their eyes look so much bigger and healthier now that you’ve been taking care of them for awhile. Yay!
I am dead from cute. DEAD!
Yes, cat ladydom starts with a just couple of them….next thing you know….
Or as Ernest Hemingway famously said: One cat just leads to another.
TOO ADORABLE!
“I shall seek out and find teh whitest of your white things, and make it my favoritest napping place.”
LOL–and failing that, will look for the warmest, cleanest laundry!
Sometimes the farting problem is a high protein diet. There’s food for sensitive stomachs, and a switch is easy. But definitely mention it to the vet.
The top pic looks like one cat trying to bite the other’s head off.
Welcome to the cat people club. Now you understand.
Re: the farting issue
Sometimes it’s the kitten food, like in the case of the youngest member of my household (Ruby). She’s much less…fragrant…since switching to the big cat food. On the other hand, Sasha, the older lady cat, is occasionally just stinky. Usually while sitting in my lap purring up a storm. :P And the boy cat (Pixel) doesn’t seem to fart at all. Hmmmmm…. But my guess is that it’s the kitten food.
Laurie in Mpls., since someone else seems to be just ‘Laurie’ now….
I woke up this morning with a cold wet cat nose in my eyeball. Followed by bladder-trampling, blanket burrowing and a whole lot of purring.
Welcome to the club.
And yes, it’s the cats who are crazy, not the cat-ladies. Maybe.
Very very cute.
I just joined the club too, and wish I could share my ridiculous pictures.
<i<My cat drinks water from the floor of shower
Oh yeah, mine LOVES the bathtub, licking the water from the bottom and also just lounging there in strange and uncomfortable-looking positions. She also almost never makes a sound – she’ll make the mouth-motion of a meow, but no sound comes out. (And I know she *can,* due to an unfortunate thermometer-in-the-butt incident at the vets during which she very vocally expressed her displeasure.) And her favorite sleeping spot in the apt. is a bare cardboard box (on top of it, not inside it). When we first realized she was sleeping there, I put a blanket down to make it softer for her. She immediately stopped sleeping there. I removed the blanket, and she was back.
Oops, html close tags FAIL.
My mom told me I had the weirdest cat ever when I got Yuna, who used to have a terrible farting problem. My gosh, the cat could clear a room faster than anything I’ve ever seen! My vet eventually diagnosed her, after a couple of food switches, with gastrointestinal issues, and now she’s on a very low dose of steroids every week — and no more farts! Now, however, we call her Yuna SMASH!
They look much, much healthier now.
Awwwww! So sweet!
Is it now Feministe policy to accept comments from zombies? I’m all in favor of free speech, but maybe not for the undead.
Regarding cats and farting, my husband once let off a rather loud one while our kitten was about six inches away from the point of origin. She just spun around and stared: “My god, I didn’t know it could do that!”
There is no shame in being a “cat lady,” crazy or otherwise.
Your little furballs are adorable. :-D
such cute kitties, and…
“Oh my GOD, what did you EAT?!”
…a Laura Silverman on Dr. Katz’ reference!?!?!
wow, kitties, Jill, Laura Silverman, all in one place! too good to be true…
This morning, on the first try, i caught TWO now full-grown semi-feral cats who’ve been living by the chapel where i work. tomorrow they’ll be back, with shots and spay/nueters! a very good cat day.
Re: the farting
As others have said there are lots of potential reasons but giving him some probiotics (there are formulations for pets) can’t hurt. Also, if you do wind up going the antibiotic route the probiotics and some canned pumpkin (for fiber) can help with digestive upset from that. One of my kitties was a digestive mess for a while after her deworming etc and that combo was the only thing that helped. I read all sorts of advice online about how to get her to eat the pumpkin but it turned out that she loves it straight from the can. Now every time I make pumpkin muffins I have to give her some of the pumpkin :).
