Yes, I know, I introduced myself, posted a few times, then went completely AWOL. Between the election, my day job, and a 14-month-old cutting all four molars at once, I got a little overwhelmed. But I’m coming out the other side.
I know a looooooot of people who spent long hours volunteering on the campaigns and are at a loss at what to do with all this time and energy. I’ll be digging around for more, but just to get you started, there are phone banks coming up here in DC – NARAL Pro-Choice America is organizing folks to call into Georgia for Jim Martin (D), the candidate in the U.S. Senate race that’s going to a run-off on December 2. He’s against Sen. Saxby Chambliss, who’s rocking a 0% rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America. Seriously, 0% takes work. It takes commitment to an anti-choice, anti-woman agenda. So yeah, points for consistency.
Here are the details:
What: Calling other pro-choice voters in Georgia to urge them to vote for Jim Martin
Dates: November 17, 18, 19 and December 1
Time: 6:00 – 8:30 pm
Location: NARAL Pro-Choice America, 1156 15th St NW, Suite 700
RSVP: Diana Onken, donken@prochoiceamerica.org
No, we won’t make it to the coveted 60-vote majority in the Senate, but every pro-choice vote will ease the way for President Obama to push a progressive agenda and roll back some of the damage wrought by eight years of what’s-his-face. It’s worth it.

I’ living in Atlanta these days and very excited that Martin still has a chance. Thanks for helping to organize people -I’ll be doing my part, but we need all the help we can get.
Thank you thank you thank you!
In addition to being anti-choice, Chambliss also attributed this runoff to a “high minority vote,” and has run ads already invoking 9/11–and that’s just this campaign. Let’s not forget that 6 years ago, he ran ads comparing Max Cleland, who left three limbs on a battlefield in Vietnam, to Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein.
In other words, one of the most odious members of the Senate.
I will definitely be phonebanking.
DC folks–please do this! The runoff here is going to be extremely tight. It’ll most likely come down to which side can get the most voters motivated to show up for an offseason election. The Republican party is sending in a ton off their all-stars, we need grassroots volunteers to get people out to vote. It worked for the Obama campaign, it can work on a smaller scale now.
[...] The rest is here: The election’s not done yet [...]
Could we call people even if we aren’t in DC? Is there any other way to get involved?
I live in Dunwoody, Geogia and I intend to vote for Saxby Chambliss on Dec. 2nd. This should be a good win for him.
Angela, do you come around here simply to leave obnoxious comments and be a jerk to our writers and commenters in several threads all at once?
While we do not get a fillibuster-proof democratic lead, there is only so much Republicans can use that trick without paying a price for being obstructionists in 2010.
“14-month-old cutting all four molars at once” I feel for you. Out 17 month old went through that a few months ago. Poor girl was soaking a few shirts a day with drool, her gums were very swollen and she stopped sleeping through the night. But now we do not have to cut her food into teeny, tiny pieces anymore and she is sleeping soundly again.
Jill, I come to this site, at times, because it’s an open forum (or at least I thought it was..) I don’t come here to annoy anyone, but I feel this blog (or any other) is not above hearing different points of view. If you really want to get your “message” across to the masses, then try to engage them instead of becoming angry with any poster whom you disagree with.
And for the record, I do live in Dunwoody, Georgia
And have you been censored on this forum that you thought was open, Angela? Do tell us all about it.
You do not have the right to freedom from criticism, no matter how strongly you feel that your decision to vote for a man who wishes to deny women rights is the right one. (If you insist, you could at least provide intelligent discussion, instead of trolling and then complaining when someone calls you out on it.)
Rebecca, there was one occassion that I disagreed with one of the writers on this site and she basically removed my post after she told me off. I wasn’t ugly in my comment regarding her article, but she made it very clear that her blog was for like-minded people like her and that my conservative views were not welcomed. I was surprised by the post but I didn’t take it personally. Looking back, I think she may have been a guest writer. I do not wish to reveal her moniker because I don’t want to create any annomosity.
As for the latter half of your statement, I don’t have a problem with any of my posts being challanged or criticised. On the contrary. I find it quite refreshing that the women on this blog are very passionate about what they believe in. However, what I do have a problem with is how the exchanges are handled when an oppossing point of view comes into play. I’ve seen quite a bit of negative feedback and name calling, something I do not engage in.
I do agree that more Women’s issues need to be address, I sometimes disagree with the methods.
look for information on making calls to Georgia on martinvictory.com coming soon.
Angela, you’ve been offensive and ignorant. You’ve denied that the fight for same-sex marriage is a civil rights issue, said that you’re willing to allow drunk drivers and loiterers in American jails to be tortured if it gets them off the streets, blamed victims of domestic violence for not reporting it, called attempts to prevent female genital mutilation and spousal abuse abroad an “imposition” of our beliefs onto foreign countries, implied that women with mental illnesses are not capable of making intelligent decisions…need I go on?
I don’t know what particular situation you’re referring to, but if it was something like the above, I can’t blame whoever waved her wand and moderated you away. “Tolerating different opinions” =/= “letting this blog no longer be a safe space.”
If you don’t have a problem with your posts being criticized, I advise you not to complain when they are criticized, because doing so gives the impression that you do have a problem with it.
