Before and After

We solved Fidel’s nubbin issues.

Before:
Lush and Luxurious

After:
Sad Specimen

Unfortunately Fidel is so unphotogenic that the pics don’t capture how happy he is now that the nubbins are gone. Since he got home from the groomer, Fidelio has been prancing around the house like a muppet prince.

Yeah, I have a cat that’s about as hairy, and he’s a hell of a lot nicer when I snip his hair.

    True story:

A friend of mine had to have her cat groomed for severe knots. She went to pick the cat up, and the groomer first wished to talk to her.

First, the groomer spent five minutes telling her about how bad the knots were and how she’d had to shave the cat completely. She then produced the *fleece*, since the poor kitty (who had been a stray) had been so knotted that the fur had come off in one piece.

My friend then asked to see her cat.

The cat looked rather like Fidel, only small, female, and extremely pissed. My friend brought her home, giggling all the while, and let her outside because she was so upset over her lack of fur.

Twenty minutes later she got a call from her neighbor. “Sue, it’s horrible! My God, you have to look outside! Your tree!”

She glanced out the window and saw the shaved cat up in the tree. “What’s wrong? It looks normal to me.”

“It’s awful! There’s this huge mutant squirrel in your tree!”

Poor Fidel! He might be happy, but he looks pissed!

I’m sure he’s happier, but he does look like Evil Possessed Cat of Dooooooom.

    Poor kitty!
I think he needs a sweater to keep him warm :)

Awww… I know he’s probably much happier without the fur angst, but my first thought was “Poor kittty! He looks so stupid!”

I do hope you’re going to keep him brushed as the fur grows back to prevent such problems in the future.

I’m going “Oh, no, poor kitteh!” and laughing myself sick at the same time. Poor Fidel – he may be happier IRL, but that last photo would make me sleep with one eye open and all sharp objects removed from the house.

I *love* lion cuts on long haired cats! :) A friend of mine had 2 Persians that would get those cuts for the summer and they were always WAAAAAY happier after getting shaved.

Sorry to hear he won’t let you groom his belly, though. Would giving him something else to play with/chew on to distract him while you comb it work? My boy cat doesn’t like being brushed at ALL, but he’s sort of medium-haired, so it’s not such a big deal. My husband will get his hands wet running the shower in the morning and just *rub* the loose fur off of him, though, and he not only tolerates it, he LIKES it. O_o Yeah, my cat’s a freak! :D

I can only imagine how much happier he is with his new lion clip (Oo! Suede kitty!), but don’t cats give the best “fuck you” looks in the world?

I did this to my Boos cat a few summers ago and he loved it! LOVED IT! He spends so much time grooming himself and with no fur, it was a much simpler and faster job. And oh his belly was so soft. Did it to my Siamese and she was a yowling miserable thing for months. Glad he’s happy.

He’s pretty fit and trim under all his fur! Kitty photo shoots are hard. Catch them on a half blink, and they look pure evil. Good to hear he’s liking his new cut!

Yeah, I’ve had to do it too… it seemed to freak out the other cats far more than it did the one that got shaved!

    One of the reasons I swear to myself I will not get a long haired dog or cat unless I am damn sure I will brush it every day ^^;
The cat/dog usually wont give a crap how it looks as long as they’re comfy… but I personally hate the look of long haired animals having their fur trimmed/shaved. I know some people who clip their Australian Terrier of all things >.< It’s bred for warm weather! It doesn’t need trimming, just brush it and pluck it occasionally!
Just to be clear I’m not railing against Lauren, if an animal is matted those matts have got to be removed ^_-

He looks cute! If the problem is that he won’t let you brush his tummy, you can ask for a “line cut,” which I think entails just trimming only the hair on the tummy so that he doesn’t get mats or nettles and stuff in it. Just be clear that you mean “line,” not “lion.” ;)
