I cannot hear mention of Hitchens without quoting Galloway: “drink soaked former Trotskyist poppinjay.”

Also, Pat Boone made his entire career watering down the music of a queer black genius so that racist white parents found it palatable. Then, he attempted to play metal. Which he abandoned as soon as it didn’t make him a lot of money. So, yeah, I’m questioning the man’s motive. Not that, if he really believed the stuff he says, it would be anything to be proud of. Real American Taliban or over-the-hill, money-grubbing poser? What a choice.

Cara: While they’re at it they might want to explain that the “time honored and biblically ordained” tradition that is neither subject to the whim of the people nor to government interference is something of a modern concept which is rooted most firmly not in the culture of the bible but in the mores and needs of European royalty and business classes. Moreover, its something which is clearly subject to both the government and the people as it’s definition has constantly fucking changed as social demands have changed.

Marriage is not a governmental creation; it is a time honored and biblically ordained institution that is subject not to the government but to the will of the people.

This is perhaps the most stupid and logically absurd sentence I have ever read in my entire life. Someone needs to sit Pat Boone down and explain very, very gently that if if marriage had nothing to do with government, we wouldn’t be voting on it you fucking idiot. Oh, and that in our country, the will of the people decides the government.

Am I the only person here who remembers Pat Boone’s metal album? You know, the one with him on the cover looking like an over-the-hill leatherman? If I’m remembering right it was called “In a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy.” I remember seeing an interview with him around when it came out where he talked about how nice everyone he talked to was and how the metal scene wasn’t nearly as scary as he thought it was. One of the folks he talked to was Rob Halford. Just sayin’…
