Not really. Although I know it’s happening, from across the world it seems, well, distant.

That’s a wonderful picture of them. I look forward to seeing our new President in office.

For the rest of our lives, whether you voted for him or you didn’t vote for him, whether you like him or you don’t, whether you are acutely aware of the historic threshold being crossed or you aren’t, EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN who is alive and sentient right now will always remeber exactly where they were and what they were doing at precisely 12:00PM EST on January 20, 2009.

As one MSNBC pundit (Tweety, I believe) observed on Election Night… there is America before this moment, and America after this moment.

We are witnessing one of the most significant events in the entire history of our country.

And I am in awe. And feeling tremendously proud of being an American right now. Damn it feels good to actually be able to say that.

I was talking to a friend of mine earlier today. He’s in his mid fifties and was telling me he gets choked up whenever he is reminded of this lately. The picture did it for me. I expect to cry through much of tomorrow.

Since I was a kid, I’ve always been giddy and filled with anticipation on the eve of elections; the Inaugurations have always seemed anticlimactic. Often, as with Clinton, by the time they roll around the bloom has long since fallen off the proverbial rose.

This is different. I am looking forward to watching with my students. Can’t wait for the speech; can’t wait to be under “home rule”, as it were, once again.

I’m really excited about starting a new chapter in our country.

And I want Michelle Obama’s outfit (although I don’t know if I could wear that color as well as she does).

They are seriously the cutest couple to have ever lived. They glow! I love that it’s obvious they love each other.

    Also, their kids are adorbs.

Anyway, sorry for the inane blather, I’m just in a grand mood.

I’m so psyched! What a great time to be alive–an outstanding new chapter in human evolution that WE get to be a part of! How cool is THAT? All the best to the Obama’s…..and a nice, big flipping of the bird to Dubya….get out and STAY out, idiot.
