Jill, go to AOL video to get the embed code. I will email it to you.
Yeah, she’s pretty much amazing.
I love the Yeah Yeah Yeahs first two albums… I find this song really disappointing. I think it’s a cheesy, boring departure from their earlier work. It’s always a bad sign when a rock band decides to go the over-produced, corny synth line route, not to mention the “never mind, this band is actually just the cute lead singer” route. And, now, the “music video with lip-syncing and music but not a single musical instrument” route.
Bleh. YMMV.
I always liked the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for being unapologetically weird, which this video captures quite well. I, for one, kind of like the over-done frantic rave-like synth line. It reminds of me of half-drunken nights spent traipsing half-haphazardly around the town with my like-minded innocently miscreant friends. Oh, and Karen O is amazing and has such an awesome voice. I’m insanely jealous.
I’m a vegan and I’m friendly – Does that count?
Cool video, but did you have to preface the post by making a kind of nasty, underhanded comment toward vegans?
“Not vegan friendly, but I don’t care what you think.”
I doubt if you had just posted the video without the snark (and maybe a positive comment) anybody would have raised a stink about Karen O wearing a leather jacket. Because guess what? Most vegans aren’t the crazy-weirdo-peta kind. But you’re kind of assuming that a bunch will be, or maybe the comment was directed only at them. But seriously, don’t conflate “vegan” with “will go crazy about a band wearing leather” because for a lot of people it’s a completely personal choice.
This irked me. Your readers presumably like you already, so why alienate them?
Oh jesus. It wasn’t anti-vegan snark. I didn’t think any vegan would complain about Karen O’s leather jacket. It was a reference to the chorus of the song, which repeats “So get your leather, leather, leather on on on on” several times.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs were featured in a recent issue of my undergrad’s alumni magazine.
Music sounded ok….though I must say that the band members in the video are dressed far more snazzily a la New York City than my undergrad’s students’ supposed reputation of its students “going out of their way to look ugly” as quoted from some parents interviewed for a few mainstream college guides.
just a mention:
the video started playing the moment I got on the website here. Not a problem for me, since I work from home, but maybe an issue for others. I hate to even mention it, but websites that start playing music, making noises, etc. the second I get to them is a pet peeve, and a real issue for folks surfing when they shouldn’t be. Which is a whole other issue. ;)
Ah, that’s annoying. Thanks Laurie. I moved the video below the fold.
Re Laurie’s comment – I’ve muted my computer every time I’ve come over here today. Of course, then again I should be working, not changing my settings in order to be able to blog more efficiently…
I was a little confused about the vegan remark, too.
OK, I can totally accept that there was no harm intended. However, please see how it could be misunderstood. The comment above mine (“vegan and friendly”) shows that vegans are working really hard to fight the “not crazy” label even on sites like this.
I meant “crazy”
silly!
I thought Fever to Tell was their best album, the others (with the exception of Is Is) are all quite different, so it takes me a while to get into them. Perhaps they’re trying to attract more of the mainstream with these dancier tunes?
You’re right, K-Raus, sorry if my response was snappy (it’s been a loooong week already).
while the first album was nearly great, everything has been downhill for them since. being that this is a site for the ladies, you could have delivered your big up to neko case who is consistently brilliant.
oh, and from one queen to another karen o. , that jacket makes you look like andrew dice clay !
I actually have posted Neko Case videos several times… do we really have to pick just one lady to give a “big up” to?
