Hooray! I wrote a post telling everyone to buy the CD to support the AMC, and you wrote a post telling everyone to buy the CD because it’s great! Hopefully that means all that many more people will buy the CD now that we’ve got a glowing review up — and without even intending it! This is like the best posting coincidence ever. *claps hands*

I only have one edit request: the studio that produced the CD is Liquid Words Productions, and it is a PHENOMENAL company.

This review really warms my soul.

Julie, you’ll need to fix the link to the Speak! website, you have it as .org but it’s .com.

What a wonderful review. Makes me want to get my copy *today* – I’ve been putting it off because I’ve been pretty consistently in almost negative financial territory the past few months, cuz of the domino effect, but if not today, then soon. Very soon, as I know money is needed to get the single mom’s to the AMC.

I want it for me, but mostly I want it for my young teen granddaughter – she’s at that half-woman, half-child, half-dingbat stage (being a teen, multiple halves are no problem for her) and while she knows of my interests, activism and beliefs (somewhat), she much prefers to listen to and emulate younger people, especially those who she feels might understand the things she herself is going through.

I can think of no more wonderful group of women (and babybfps!) to serve as a sort of introduction, for her, to life beyond myspace, the phone and the mall. That she can then visit the sites and see the other works and writings of the people on the CD is just topping on the cake.

Thank you so much Julie for this beautiful review, and for your exceptionally kind words about my piece. i must give due props though in regards to the answering machine style, which is something that Matthew at Liquid Words Productions put to my recording. All i did was record the poem over the phone with Matthew and he made me feel great doing it, but then after he played around and went with the answering machine background and sent the finished recording to me for approval. So many thanks for your kind words and an overall great review, but also thanks to everyone who has supported me and the women of Speak, like Matthew. I also have to thank the women of Speak because they truly are my sisters and friends, and i love that our daughters are part of this as well.

I love your review and thank you for it. I have been listening to the SPEAK cd often in my car and at work. Thank you for putting into words how I also feel as a jewish woman listening to Nadia Abou-Karr speak about her Palestinian experience. I grew up so immersed in Holocaust survivor stories, visits to the museums and studying the genocide. I also was taught growing up that Israel had no faults and that we are the underdog. The last few years I’ve been trying to educate myself and learn about the experiences and the history that I never knew about and what was silenced. I often feel naive and ignorant and Palestine, but I know that there is so much out there that Israel and the media is doing wrong. Thank you for putting into words in your review about what I wasn’t really able to express.

this a fantastic review! I love your wonderful descriptive word power – you really get it right on here!

Its funny, because I was just trying to write a little (informal) thing of my own , to post on my myspace blog – and it was also about that thing, how its great and its a great project ;) this is what I wrote:

“I am listening to the SPEAK! CD (here at work in the antique store actually) and I am getting more and more into this CD. The more you listen to it, the better. There is so much here. I am feeing like…goosebumps and eyes tearing up, and sometimes I turn a certain selection up higher (I like to crank up Noemi Martinez’s piece especially, one of my favorites) and the story about the protest and being scared and singing “I feel pretty” in the paddy wagon, I am laughing about that and thinking how great it is; and I am thinking more, and reflecting deeper, and listening more and more. And I just want to say the more you listen the better: you should Listen to SPEAK! because its good for you and you will enjoy it. I was always telling people to purchase SPEAK! in order to support this fantastic project, but now I am thinking really, really, the reason I would encourage you to purchase SPEAK is for yourself. you will be glad.”
